South Park Reference?

I just saw the Ayds commercial for the first time, and came upon this Wikipedia article (started in february 2006) in my search for whether or not it was real. It clicked that there is a South Park episode where a similar pun is used. In that episode, Subway's "Jared" promotes the use of "aides" (i.e. assistants) to help in weight loss. Given the use by South Park's creators to parody existing material, it seems likely that this episode was inspired by the Ayds commercial. Since I don't have any source handy, I won't add it in, though. --RealGrouchy 06:00, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

"Unfortunately, public awareness of the disease AIDS beginning around mid-1981 caused problems for the brand due to the similarity of names."

that unfortunately is terrible!! why not edit it to "however" or something!?

That's "unfortunately" as in "unfortunately for the brand", not "it's unfortunate that public awareness of AIDS increased". Try a little reasonable thinking and consideration of context before going straight for the knee-jerk reaction, please. -- Pennyforth (talk) 05:35, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
though the name "AIDS" wasn't actually coined for the disease until mid 1982...

PPA?

I've always read that the active ingredient in Ayds was benzocaine, presumably to lessen your sense of taste to reduce eating. I've never heard that they contained phenylpropanolamine, a stimulant now banned in the US. --Bk0 (Talk) 18:01, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

The box I have here (The one that says "Appetite Suppressant") says "Active Ingredient - 5.5 mg of Benzocaine"--The Lone Bard 22:13, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
I tend to think that the NYT article is wrong. It groups it in with a bunch of other diet pills, and I think the writer didn't do thorough research on each one. But I don't have a better reference. In any case I moved the phrase "presumably to reduce the sense of taste to reduce eating", because benzocaine (a topical local anesthetic) might reduce the sense of taste, but PPA (a stimulant) wouldn't. --Galaxiaad (talk) 23:15, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Compoz sleep aid reference

Is there a reason this is mentioned in the article? The article is ayds; not compoz sleep aid. Woods01 (talk) 13:13, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
