Historical Route or Disused Route[edit]

The template being used for the route has been changed from <Historical to Disused - the information is Historical whether or not the station still exists.

If you considere where the {{Historical Rail Start}} or {{Historical Rail Insert}} is used elsewhere, it can be seen that provides the historical data as to the original company that built the station, and in most cases the pregrouping company, whether or not the station is opne or closed or if that site has been obliterated. Using the {{Historical Rail Start}} or {{Historical Rail Insert}} does not infer that the station is open or closed. For examples see Johnstone North which is a closed station with associated line closed (in fact a Morrison's store has been built on the site), and then compare with Johnstone which has the National Rail and Historical details.

Now look back as Bala Junction, the route box information is Historical as it provides the original companies and pregrouping company, there is no National Rail, Heritage Rail, etc section - so qed Historical is correct. --Stewart^{(talk | edits)} 15:59, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In fact if you look at Bala, the route box is incorrect, in that there should be three lines to the box:

Bala and Dolgelly Railway to Bala Lake Halt (west)
Corwen and Bala Railway to Llandderfel (east)
Bala and Festiniog Railway to Bala (New) (north)

Note the Historical railway names, all of which later became part of the Great Western Railway. --Stewart^{(talk | edits)} 16:07, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

With respect, I believe you are confusing the {{Historical Rail Start}} and {{Disused Rail Start}} templates. The former only applies to closed stations on open lines, whereas the latter applies to closed stations on closed lines. The issue of the reference to the previous operator is neither here nor there, as there is no rule about what company should be indicated in the routebox; furthermore the information about which company constructed the line is (or should be) contained in the infobox as will be the subsequent operators. Johnstone North is imho wrongly categorised, but as it's north of the border, I'll leave it. Lamberhurst (talk) 16:25, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK we leave it as is with the disused template. Most of my work has been in on Scottish lines and the Johnstone example is the way that most of the Scottish stations have been dealt with. --Stewart^{(talk | edits)} 18:01, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bala Junction..goods services[edit]

A closure date of goods facilities is shown as November 1964. It is more understanding that this station was merely an exchange passenger station and did not have a goods yard or facilities. I think you could well be right - it's not listed in Clinker, it wasn't accessible by road, untimetabled [1] and the goods withdrawal date is correct for Bala (New), so there may have been some confusion. Lamberhurst (talk) 22:41, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
