High schools[edit]

http://www.publicschoolreview.com/school_ov/school_id/39361 lists a John Glenn High, as does the German Wik. There used to be a Catholic school in Bay City. I believe it went through high school. I don't know if it still exists.

John Glenn High School[edit]

There is still a school called John Glenn High School. It is in the Bangor Township School District, which is adjacent to Bay City. The Catholic High School in Bay City is Bay City All Saints.

and bay city is at

Since Saginaw and Flint coordinates are
N 43° 0′ 36″ W 83° 41′ 24″,(about 28'South 9'East of the tower)
Saginaw and Flint are too far south to be the base town.
WBSF's tower is at
N 43° 28' 26.75" W 83° 50' 44.65"
bay city is about 7'South and 8" East of the tower.
and Clio, Michigan is at
N 43° 10′ 41″ W 83° 44′ 10″(about 18' south 6'East of the tower)
so Clio, Michigan is too far south as well.

I figured out my error. Saginaw's coordinates where listed wrong on the Saginaw, Michigan page. Saginaw is at 43° 25′ 48″ N, 84° 38′ 24″ W.(3'South 12'East if the tower). I fixed the listing on the Saginaw, Michigan page.R00m c (talk) 08:07, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Need to add[edit]

I'm not sure if this would be a reliable source (therefore I didn't make an edit), but I found the statement "The Liberty Bridge was constructed in 1986 and has an approximate daily traffic count of 20,000 vehicles." Marvin Schur[edit]

I don't think this section should be on the page. Devoting more space to one man's story than the entire city's culture hardly seems encyclopedic. People will not allow this to be forgotten; that is why it has been chosen to be memorialize on Bay City's Wikipedia page. This is an event that has garnered national attention and outrage. It is also effecting a societal change and is certainly an event of some historical nature that deserves to be recorded. If you feel that the city's culture section is too short then by all means expand it. But unilaterally deleting a section of article because of you opinion prior to some degree of debate is hardly an appropriate response. Also, please create or log into your Wikipedia account so that you can sign your name to your statements. If you're going to offer a dissenting opinion that's fine. Just don't be afraid to sign your name to it. Mr Schur's death is Bay City's shame to wear.

This is sufficiently tragic and reported widely enough that it could be its own page. It hardly defines Bay City, and at best deserves a passing mention and a wiki link to a Marvin Schur article, which is where it should be moved. The information itself has been properly referenced and is thus separate from any consideration of the deletion of the Marvin Schur page (which was quite properly deleted). Regardless of any desire to forget, ignore, and/or cover up this occurance, it is inarguably a notable event in Bay City's history. The Marvin Schur event was tragic, but he was not the only person to die as a result of limiters. The section devoted to him is intellectually dishonest. In fact he was not the first person to die last year because of the combination of cold and limiters. He should have his own article, rather than having a section devoted to attacking the city itself. Bay City, Michigan and Jason The Michigan Kid Lynch[edit]

I have known Jason for over a decade. Jason should be listed here, he is very well known in the billiards industry. He used to write an article for Inside Pool Magazine, he is also listed on McDermott Cue's website www.mcdermottcue.com as one of their cue ambassadors as well as a RACK team member on Gospel Trick Shot Ministries Site. www.gospeltrickshot.org He serves on both the APTSA ( Artistic Pool and Trick Shot Association) and the GTS (Gospel Trick Shot Association, Inc.) board of directors. His ranking has been as high as 9th in the world, but that suffered when he missed a tournament to take care of his wife that passed from cancer in May 2013. In my opinion, he should be elected into the Bay City Sports hall of fame for his work witnessing for Christ using Billiards. Murray Sutherland[edit]

Former boxing contender supposedly owns a gym in Bay City and he was known for wearing Tartan in the ring...and it is almost too coincidental with the rock band, the Bay City Rollers who also were known for their tartan; and Sutherland was born in Scotland as well.

Wikipedia Famous Residents is only an essay of a couple of editors. There are only three contributors in the article history, and its impact is listed as "Low". It is not a guideline or policy.
All of these mentioned individuals are significant, COULD have their own article, are WP:Notable enough to have articles, and are each sourced from WP:RS. In my opinion, having a WP:Red link is not controlling. This is an ongoing concern for editors. I'd have to agree with User:7&6=thirteen. These people have solid references and are locally notable. WP:USCITIES has other suggestions, though none are policy. I recently added to the Prentiss, Mississippi article, and just 3 of the 8 notable people had wiki articles, yet I felt all were important. There is a policy that does speak to this issue: WP:LISTPEOPLE. Unlike the essay above, it is a part of the MOS and hence policy. It says that either a person must meet the notability requirements to have an article or reliable references must be present to show that they are famous for one event, presumably in the case of this article, tied to the city. Also either reliable references must exist in their bio or must be added to the listing showing a tie to the city. So no, they don't actually have to qualify for an article, but their entry must have reliable referencing showing that they were famous for an event that ties to the community. That leaves the question of what is important enough to qualify for the exception, and the policy I referenced suggests that should be decided by consensus. Should we change the article picture?[edit]

I feel a shot of three stores on Midland St. and the marina isn't really representative of Bay City as a whole.
