the sample code on this parser is broken for Python 3. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aepergakis (talkcontribs) 00:05, 9 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copied table?[edit]

You can find the exact same table as in this article on this site: https://www.crummy.com/software/BeautifulSoup/bs4/doc/

I think it should be removed from the article because of that?

Swam pl (talk) 21:03, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It should be removed from the article because it bears no encyclopaedic value, as it doesn't describe BS itself, but just repeats some detail documentation. Marcusmueller ettus (talk) 08:52, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I can see that you have already removed it. Thank you! --Swam pl (talk) 19:08, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So what's the point of BeautifulSoup?[edit]

Article says that BeautifulSoup is for parsing HTML, but the table under "Advantages and disadvantages of parsers" shows BeautifulSoup apparently being called or initialized with other parsers, which presumably do the work. So BeautifulSoup apparently does not itself do any parsing, so what's the point of it? No doubt there IS a point, and the article should describe what it is. – All items listed on Beautiful Soup (disambiguation) either do not have separate articles about them or are only WP:PARTIAL title matches. So I think the article about the HTML parser is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. 93.72.49.123 (talk) 02:42, 29 April 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 07:30, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong oppose WP:DABMENTION is a thing. It does not seem clear whether the software is notable. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 03:34, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Very strong oppose look in Gbooks; "Beautiful Soup" is a song in the 1865 novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, and probably a case for WP:PRIMARYDIRECT, even more than WP:DABMENTION. This obscure programming stub can't be merged into Python? check for notability. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:24, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. (Also oppose primary redirect to Alice's Adventures). The other items are notable enough (and the parser isn't generally notable enough) to keep the base name as a DAB page. In terms of whether or not Beautiful Soup (HTML parser) itself is notable enough, I think it definitely it is since multiple books (two examples: Getting Started with Beautiful Soup and Website Scraping with Python: Using BeautifulSoup and Scrapy) have been written about it and it's talked about extensively in the general literature. Merging to Python (programming language) isn't a great solution since there we don't have details about particular libraries but just name drop some notable ones and link to them. Beautiful soup is a parser for Python but it is not part of Python. Skynxnex (talk) 20:01, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose a primary topic does not one make just by being the only article, other topics may be covered in articles as subtopics, and thus one of those subtopics might instead be the primary topic. This parser is verging on non-notable Speedy Deletion, so isn't a primary topic -- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 07:20, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
