Allegations against Laurie Fine[edit]

I added the verbiage regarding the accusations that Laurie Fine engaged in sexual activities with Syracuse basketball players. Not sure if this is the best place for it, but there's not a page for Laurie (due to lack of notability). Kosmo99 (talk) 15:34, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is he Jewish?[edit]

I'm not Jewish, and I'm pretty much a noob here. But "Fine" is commonly a Jewish surname (e.g., Larry Fine of the Three Stooges), and jewornotjew.com (http://jewornotjew.com/profile.jsp?ID=1214) lists him as Jewish, as does the New Jersey Jewish News (http://njjewishnews.com/kaplanskorner/2011/11/29/bernie-fine-a-new-college-shanda/); meanwhile, Tablet Mag lists him as a founding member of the Jewish Coaches Association (http://www.tabletmag.com/scroll/83733/accused-fine-helped-found-jewish-coaches-assn/). I don't know how Wikipedia views any of these sources, but taken together they seem like pretty strong evidence that Fine should be listed in "Jewish sportspeople." Not sure if those sources pass the reliability test for an encyclopedia. It does seem likely that he is Jewish based on your points, but we need better sources to be able to verify that he is. AdventurousSquirrel (talk) 21:09, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Coatrack reversion[edit]

See diff. What exactly is meant by the coatrack comment? I'm not sure how it applies to this edit. Do you mean that the Penn State child sex abuse scandal is a coatrack article? You weren't just adding a link. You added your own comment and a link. Generally, material in articles should be noteworthy and supported by reliable sources. You were tying two events together, not because the sources tied them together, but because they are connected in your mind. Okay, synthesis I can buy, but the removal didn't make sense with a coatrack justification. However, it's not hard to find an outside source to support the line I added: Yahoo Sports, for example. That's an opinion piece, but even if you could find more sources, it doesn't make sense for us to tie the two together in the way you did. There's bound to be sources that are discuss these kinds of scandals as there are commonalities, but unless we're going to an in-depth discussion of it, which wouldn't be warranted in an article about Fine, the offhand phrase smacks of superficial negative commentary. And don't forget that, unlike Sandusky, Fine was not charged with anything, let alone convicted; that, btw, is the coatracky part.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:52, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Blanket revert[edit]

An editor just made a blanket revert. Of additions that were RS supported.

Surely there were parts he agreed with. It was wrong to revert those.

All of the addition was RS supported. The edit summary does not explain why the editor sees any of the additions as a problem. Please discuss those here -- without blanket reversions -- and certainly do not revert material that is RS supported and which you do not have a reason to disagree with.

Also (maybe this was just a mistake?) the large blanket revert was marked as a "minor edit." I understood a minor edit to be one "that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute." Which is not the case here, I would think.
