Untitled[edit]

I changed a number of items on here after reading an interview with sugar here: http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/w52x-ej.htm

He gives his year of birth as 1936, although most places on the Internet go with 1937. I figured I'd defer to him on this one. MKil 15:28, 19 April 2006 (UTC)MKil[reply]

- Yeah, why exactly is his birth year listed as 1937 now? The links at the bottom of the page all indicate 1936 now. I would bet if there was any initial confusion it was that his birthday that year hadn't occurred yet. His Social Security death index says 1936 as does the 1940 census. I'm going to change it back to 1936 unless anyone has any objections. Richjenkins 17:14, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:BertSugar2.jpg[edit]

File:BertSugar2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:47, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added a fair use rationale for the photo, although I'll ackowledge that it shouldn't be that hard to come up with a free image to replace the publicity photo. Anson2995 02:27, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bert as a teen-ager[edit]

Starting around 1951, when I began to collect old-timers (already in that category at that time) baseball players autographs -- the first three I got were Dazzy Vance, Frank Frisch, and Ty Cobb -- I corresponded quite a bit with Bert. His handwriting and syntax led me to believe he was something like a middle-aged man. Now I find that he was about 15 years old at at the time, only three years older than I. I traded with him -- got Wally Pipp from him, for example. Maybe I was dealing with his dad, or even his grandfather.
