Format section

As the format of the show is relatively different to its foreign counterparts, i.e. no Head of Household, etc. should we perhaps have a brief format of the show with information about a weekly task, nominations and eviction? It only needs to be a brief format, and the things that make it different from international versions. I can make a basic format later on. - ǀ Mikay ǀ 18:04, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Trivia - number of celebrities

"Following the end of Celebrity Big Brother 2007, 154 housemates have inhabited the house (including the 8 participants in Teen Big Brother). 46 of those were celebrities, including Chantelle Houghton, the non-celebrity contestant in Celebrity Big Brother 2006 and Jade Goody, who appeared in two series."

Why is Chantelle counted in the "Celebrity" figure? Surely she's just as much a "celebrity" as the none "celebrity" edition contestants in that she may have become famous after the show, but she wasn't famous before she went in. If there aren't any objections then I'll reduce the number by one and remove the bit there talking about her. Sven945 01:19, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

She's included as a celebrity because she was in Celebrity Big Brother. — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 13:56, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Future of Big Brother

"Due to the disaster with Celebrity Big Brother's fifth series Channel 4 are in talks about the future of Big Brother, which is about to launch its eighth series, and that the axe may fall after the upcoming series and there will not be a ninth. This news comes with a blow after the axe fell on Celebrity Big Brother which will not be returning for a sixth series."

Apologies, but I have going to have to fail the article. There are several entire sections without sources and none of the images have fair use rationale. Also, there is a trivia section which should be prosified and integrated into the main article. -- Scorpion 04:48, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

BBBM will need a re-write soon..

I think the 2004-2006/2007-present thing is okay for now.. but soon we're going to have to go about re-writing the entire section. - ǀ Mikay ǀ 15:04, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Time to move

BBLB, BBBM, BBBB and so on to a new page it's getting messy here. And with the new host of Big Mouth this summer, the whole section will need a rewrite as its currently just Russells format, which will probably be changed.

Time to remove more like.. the amount of times the page has been merged/moved.. although I think it's only one. But I guess this'll need a vote given a lot of people want to keep it as one.. but others want them split. - ǀ Mikay ǀ 10:49, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree, this main page is far too crowded, unfortunatly I don't know how to create a new page for this. If someone else could it would really help. User: Karl100589 I vote for a SPLIT. Dalejenkins 18:46, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Bird ambience

Why do they insist on putting that shitty bird ambience over the live broadcast on E4? Its not like anyone who watches Big Brother is going to be offended by the bad language. And if it does why dont they just bleep out swear words, instead of that bird sound?

They have to do it for legal reasons whenever someone says something that they can't broadcast on TV, e.g. swearing before 9pm, personal info about people outside the house, copyrighted song lyrics etc. They probably use bird sound because it's easier to block out a long block of conversation than a single word. Dale, that looks appalling. Also, citations are not required in the lead section, so long as the fact is cited later in the article. If you're worried about citations, I'd use the generic unreferenced tag. I'd save the fact tags for any particularly worrying or controversial detail (for e.g., something that violates WP:BLP). Why is this line in Criticisms and controversy?

Does anyone know why the line below is in the Criticisms and controversy section because it does not seem like a criticism... does it???? And I don't think it caused any controversy either...

"January 2008 saw the replacement for Celebrity Big Brother, Big Brother Celebrity Hijack. Talented housemates (all aged 19 to 21) replaced the usual celebrity line-up and the celebrities 'became' Big Brother for days at a time. The series was shown on E4 instead of Channel 4. 'Hijackers' included US comic Joan Rivers, previous Big Brother's Big Mouth presenter Russell Brand, ex-footballer Ian Wright and Little Britain star Matt Lucas. Dermot O'Leary hosted both Big Brother's Little Brother and the eviction shows, previously presented by Davina McCall."

Lock this page and all other BB UK related pages

I am considering requesting Semi-Protection for this page and other relating pages (mainly the pages about the pervious series). This will help to stop vandalism which happens a lot on the BBUK page because it is such a controversial Television Show.

Semi-Protecting a page stops that page from being edited by anonymous users of Wikipedia. Therefore only people who have set up an account may edit the page. This limits vandalism and edit wars. Look here for more information Wikipedia:Protection_policy#semi.

In May I requested Semi-protection for Big Brother 2008 (UK), and Q am glad to announce that there a been minimal vandalism and the page has not suffered because of this limitation.

So what are your views on this.

I was playing a Big Brother game on the official site and I found this logo included in one of the questions. Since this logo seems to be a general logo and does not exactly match any of the Eyes from any specific year, I thought that maybe it would be appropriate in the infobox in this article, as opposed to the Eye of the latest series. What do you think? Arswann (talk) 07:16, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

That eye is the template of the BB8 eye

It looks awfully like the series 2 logo, and the series 3 logo. I think the basic template has been the same throughout all series, except series 5 --mattymax (talk) 18:29, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Removed content

After performing a search, I was unable to find a source about the BB9 Stephanie controversy. As per WP:V I have removed the following paragraph from the article. If you can find a source for it, can you please add it back in? Thanks!

Following the eviction of Stephanie McMichael on Day 9, fans reported that her phone line had not closed when the deadline for voting was reached, while the lines of Shaun "Mario" Astbury, Luke Marsden and Lisa Appleton managed to close successfully, resulting in Stephanie receiving more votes than she should have received. Because of this, many angered fans on the BB forums demanded that Stephanie be allowed to return to the Big Brother house. Many people also thought her eviction was unfair, as she was up against a couple and an early favourite, so she had apparently been cheated of her Big Brother experience. Z1720 (talk) 21:48, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Dead Set

Dead Set is a Spin-off (look at that page, tell me how it isn't!) from the British version of Big Brother. It features the same presenters in cameo roles, is filmed in the actual BB house and name checks BB frequently. It is made by the same production company for broadcast on the same channel as BB. It IS a spin off and should remain on this entry as it is very relevant to the show. magnius (talk) 15:33, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

It is not a spin off it is a parody. OK you can name a lot of stuff that are similar but I can name a lot of stuff that aren't, for example, is is a drama and Big Brother is a reality Show, there isn't a public vote, the housemates weren't found by public auditions, the show isn't 24/7 live, the housemates are actors, there wont be a show every night, the wont be a live eviction every week and at the end of the series housemates aren't eaten by zombies. In23065 (talk) 15:51, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Whether it is thematically the same or not is irrelevant, it is a spin off because it is a spin off, I don't know what is so hard for you to understand! Does it hurt to keep it on the page? It is of interest to people who watch BB and is about BB. It is an official BB show. If it was about a similar show, using BB as a template but not using the BB name, then it would be questionable, but as this is a show directly about BB and made by the BB production company it IS a spin off. magnius (talk) 15:56, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

I am happy for it to be on the page as long as it isnt classed as a spin off. In no way is it a spin off it isnt even the same genre. In23065 (talk) 16:00, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Genre is irrelevant to whether it is a spin-off or not. It doesn't need to be thematically the same as long as it is about the show in question, please refer to the Spin-off wiki entry. This is an official BB:UK show, as I have already said, it is made by the BB production company for broadcast on the same network, it features the same presenters in cameos, the actual BB house and promotion features the official BB logo. If it was about a show that was similar to BB (example would be that Doctor Who episode) then I would understand the need to keep it away from this article. It doesn't really hurt the BB:UK wiki entry to keep this little paragraph in place does it? I am sure that BB:UK fans are interested enough to warrant it, and hopefully someone will create a Dead Set wiki page to link too (hint hint) magnius (talk) 16:06, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

I agree with Magnius. Even thought it is a different genre, it should still be included. Technically, BBLB is a different "genre" to the HL show, but that is included. The same can be said for the Doctor Who episode. Dalejenkins | 20:15, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
I have no doubt that it should be included, it is whether it should be classed as a spin off that i don't like, If you read it. In23065 (talk) 20:18, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

I say it's a spin-off, on the same grounds as the others: it is a production by the Big Brother rights holders. They are "actively leveraging brand recognition". It's official, so it's a spin-off (even if it is a parody as well). Prof Wrong (talk) 17:15, 1 November 2008 (UTC) In fact, as it's a 3:1 vote, consensus rule says we can move it, so I have done. Prof Wrong (talk) 17:22, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Dalejenkins miss read me and he is not saying that it should be a spin off he is saying that it should be included in the article therefore it is a 2:2 ratio. In23065 (talk) 17:44, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Well then we're both reading different things out of Dale's post. If he has said anything to you off this page, then he needs to repeat it here if it's to be included. As what he has written is unclear then we can cut it out, which leaves a 2:1 majority in favour of spin-off.
Prof Wrong (talk) 19:12, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Please look here on how to conduct a proper consensus Talk:Big_Brother_2004_(UK)#Consensus as this not a consensus as there was no time limit given and there was no vote taken just opinions. In23065 (talk) 21:09, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
"Sorry But I Don't Think You Understand"
No, I don't. Please explain why you feel it is appropriate for you to continually move this to "parodies" rather than "spin-offs" without following this process. As far as I can see, it was first created as a spin-off, and the majority are currently expressing the opinion that this is the correct place. So why do you get to move it around without the vote? By your reasoning, you shouldn't have touched it until you had established the agreed consensus.
Prof Wrong (talk) 18:39, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Because me and magnius agreed that it wasnt a spin off. In23065 (talk) 21:28, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Where? Every post by Magnius here expresses his belief that it is a spin-off. You are claiming things for both magnius and dalejenkins that I just can't see on this talk thread.

Series information and sponsorship - merge sections?

Just thought I'd get the general feeling before I started playing around with the two tables.

It makes little sense to me to have two sections containing tables which have every series listed as the first column. Surely it would make more sense to have Sponsorship details contained within the table in the "Series details" section.

Just a suggestion, and if there's a consensus (or no consensus) I will go ahead and make the change. »—Mikaytalkcontribs 22:26, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

"International broadcast"

As the article says "Internationally, it is broadcast on the Polish network TVN." I think it needs to be clarified, that BB UK used to be broadcast on TVN Lingua. It was a channel dedicated to teaching foreign languages, and BB UK was shown there as educational material. However the TVN Lingua channel no longer exists, and therefore this sentence is no longer valid. Boyau (talk) 18:07, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

However, she didn't leave in the same way that Shabby, Caoimhe and Laura did. The portion referencing the series number and Channel 5's decision to refer to their season as BB1. The series number has never been important in the first place and really only comes into effect in discussion by fans an the media. Channel 5 has officially referenced this season as "BB1 on Channel 5" meaning they wish to distinguish it from the Channel 4 era. Give Channel 5 own article and and hive off Channel 4 section into own artice?

As the new season approaches, there needs to be a new article devoted purely to the 5 series with a crosslink to the old one on 4. Also, Marcus Bentley is the narrator, not "presenter" as he does not appear on-screen. The only presenter is Brian Dowling (main series) and he is really a host. Also, need to standardise the format for the season old and new. It is formally BB Year, not BB 5, 11, etc. So, at least for the new series, get used to Big Brother 2011, as it is a new series with its first season (and, of course, it may overlap into 2012 if there is a big twist). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.183.25.193 (talk) 14:17, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

There are way to many pointless sections, and some things are put in really weird places where they don't belong. -- Sethjohnson95 21, January 2013.

Could you clarify what are the pointless sections and the things in weird places? That way we can know what we're objecting to ;-) –AnemoneProjectors– 12:41, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
Info such as "The Shopping", "Nominations", and "Life in the house" are relevant, but I don't think they warrant their own (very small) section. This should all be explained in the "format" section. Things such as "Logo" and "Theme tune" should possibly have their own section, but why on earth is this under the "schedule" heading? -- Sethjohnson95 24, January 2013.
Agreed. Schedule and format sections need fixing. Many subsections are under the wrong heading - the house, the tasks, etc, are not part of the schedule. –AnemoneProjectors– 10:43, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

The format section currently contains incorrect information, e.g. Housemates betting a portion of their weekly shopping budget to win more, as the references used are not for the uk version of big brother. Quote a lot of references on the page are not for the uk version actually and are wrong — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.111.185.72 (talk) 01:50, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Series' details and sponsorship

Hi, I was just wondering if we should merge the series' details and viewership tables with the sponsorship tables so we only have two tables (one for Channel 4 and one for Channel 5). Any ideas? --MSalmon (talk) 19:18, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

No, other international series with more than 1 channels have 2 separate tables. ThisIsDanny (talk) 19:50, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
I know, but the headings are the same --MSalmon (talk) 19:59, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah I think that's a good idea! ThisIsDanny (talk) 21:03, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
Should the sponsors go at the end of the series' details and viewership tables? --MSalmon (talk) 21:12, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

Nominations Table -Automatic Nominations

Blue square is usually given to a housemate to be put up for eviction outside of regular nominations that have taken place that week. Apparently, only housemates who received automatic nominations BEFORE nominations get a blue square. But what is the point of giving a blue square if changes to the process after nominations are completed don't get acknowledged. Surely all changes should be acknowledged regardless of whether they took place before or after. Otherwise what is the point of even using colours on the table if they only apply on occasions. Removed a line from Criticisms and controversy

I removed the following line from the Criticisms and controversy section, as it seems quite out of place. Im going to leave it here for archival purposes:

In the first Big brother housemate Nick Batmen broke one of the fundamental rules by convincing other housemates to nominate someone once the housemates discovered his plan he was made to leave the house. ĞavinŤing 09:33, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Surely that is the one of the most controversial events in BB history? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.152.26.98 (talk) 19:47, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

BBBM - Russell Brand's departure

Russell even more recently announced that he'd be presenting this series. However channel4 have removed the programme's forum from their community.

Last names of housemates from all eight series

There was Discussion on the last names of BB8 housemates and how they show be displayed in the info box. Well why dont we keep it at first names until the series is over so that the order is of the way they left the house. But for Series 1-7 It would already be displayed like that as they have finished, But intil BB8 finishe dit could be on a First name basis. I like to veiw there last names in the info box and thought this would be an good idea?.

Final episode

The final episodes need more information (davina's big send off with Pete Burns as a guest) etc.

Fair use rationale for File:Big Brother 18 eye logo.jpg

File:Big Brother 18 eye logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a non-free use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
