Funkadelic Influence[edit]

The main riff is a rip-off of "Alice in my fantasies" by Funkadelic

Exactly, and Funkadelic gets just about no credit for it. It really makes me angry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.129.40.144 (talk) 02:13, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shining Path[edit]

I keep on hearing that this song has some tribute to the The Shining Path in it. But the lyrics don't have any obvious references in it. Is it a different song perhaps? Or is it simply not true that they have a song that is sympathetic to the shining path. (I'd hope it was the latter considering the atrocities the shining path have commited--I was kind of disgusted to hear that they had a song that portrayed them in a positive light, I'll be glad to know I'm wrong and RATM isn't really that ignorant, or knowingly supportive of a group who is known to murder protstitutes and workers who can't afford to go on strike. Or maybe they got the MRTA confused with The Shining Path?)--Brentt 21:54, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Its in the music video (which can be seen on Youtube). What can i say? ratm has always supported militant action against oppressive governments. 66.41.59.162 21:29, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently they also support taking militant action against opressive prostitutes and bus drivers. Brentt 00:09, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The cover has a portrait of Che Guevara on it and you're upset that the song supports the Sendero Luminoso? --Switch 10:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't seem that Che Guevera was nearly as psychotically cold-blooded as Sendero Luminiso. But maybe he was. Che Guevera never advocated killing prostitutes and picket line crossers as far as I know. He advocated killing a lot of other kinds of people, which is lamentable, but it seemed to be within the scope of armed conflict--unlike Sendero. Maybe I'm wrong about him, I don't think he was a saint, actually I think he was quite misguided and full of soul decaying hate, but SL seems positively psychotic.Brentt 15:40, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know much about Sendero Luminoso, but Che did some pretty terrible things, including murdering political dissenters. -Switch t 16:21, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well from my knowledge of history Che Guevara never supported the systematic targetting of innocent civillians as a tactic in guerrilla warfare. He also never engaged in that type of behaviour, the Shining Path on the other hand targetted many segments of society they deemed to be "counter-revolutionary". Any wonder why Che is so idolized in Latin America, and "Chairman Ganzolo" and his Shining Path are thought of as being scum in Peru??? - Chris Gilmore

And even though Che showed some strong sympathy for Mao Zedong Thought during the Sino-Soviet split (probably with no way of knowing the incompetance and egocentrism of Chairman Mao which led to the deaths of millions); lets not forget that this is the same guy who gave medical attention to wounded Bolivian soldiers during his campaign there! Not exactly the same tactics used by the Shining Path. - Chris Gilmore

cover art[edit]

"Guevara's face is further doctored in a way reminiscent of Andy Warhol's prints of Marilyn Monroe.[original research?]"

Yes, that's original research, and wrong. The cover art is the version of the Che image used on T-shirts, which is modified from the poster version to accommodate the limitations of silkscreening on fabric. Warhol also used silkscreening, but that's where the similarity ends. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.208.11.42 (talk) 08:52, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
