I don't know. I suppose we should, but it's not much of a plot summary, and it's a pretty simple plot line. Is it a spoiler to know they defeat the bad guy and sing in the market square? Technically, yes... Deborah-jl Talk 13:18, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

pov[edit]

The recent additions by 69.9.30.129 need some work. Their focus is POV, and though the content added is valuable, the anti Kushner bias and unsourced assertions need to be edited. On the other hand, they point out weaknesses in the original article with the presentation of the performances.

I was the author of the "criticisms" section, and I have added a new ending section to make it more balanced and less POV. I personally, as a Brundibar Scholar, really don't care for the Kushner Version (although Mr. Kushner is undoubtably one of the greatest living american playwrites) but I agree I put too much of that into the article. Mainly, I was trying to voice some of the concerns of Ela Weissberger, because, as far as I am concerned, what she says on Brundibare should be the final word on the subject. Anyway, the other reason I wrote that (and the Other veersions section) was because I felt the article put far too much focus on the Kushner version. Please,feel free to make changes if what I aded was insufficient. As for sourcing, it was impossible for me to do in some cases, such as the quotes, because they come from hearing Ela speak of from conversations with her.168.103.243.158 18:21, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

cast listings[edit]

IMHO, since there have been many recent performances of the opera, we shouldn't list the cast members for any of them unless those cast members are themselves notable. Thoughts? Deborah-jl Talk 17:48, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I worte those is because this was the first performance of an ENTIRELY NEW version that had not been seen before and appears to have sufficent momentum to eventually become the prevalent version of Brunbdibar. For this reason, I thought that it was imporant to see the principals of this new version168.103.243.158 18:23, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to point out that cast members are not listed for the original performances in Terezin, though their names are known (for instance, Aninka was Greta Hoffmeister Klingsberg). I agree with Deborah that since there have been so many recent performances of the opera that any mention of the names of the cast, director, etc. is inappropriate because it cannot be done for all schools. My understanding is that some modification of the original version is common since it is frequently re-contextualized from today's point of view--so if the modifier of the Basis version is to be personally identified, the others should be as well in the interest of objectivity.’

Pronunciation[edit]

I think it would be helpful to indicate the pronunciation of the title, if we can find a Czech who can do that. Symbolism[edit]

WARNING blatant WP:OR! What if, sparrow = eagle, cat = lion, dog = bear? USA, UK, USSR. I've never seen any WP:RS suggestion of this, but it struck me as bleeding obvious the first time I heard of Brundibár. Narky Blert (talk) 00:17, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Original performance[edit]

I'd like to point out that the original performance of Brundibár did not take place in Terezín but rather in Prague as an entry in a children's opera competition and performed by children at the Jewish Orphanage.
