Conscientious objector[edit]

Vivian is categorized as a conscientious objector, but there is no reference to this in the article. Can anybody confirm the accuracy of this claim? Cgingold 02:00, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The sources don't say it, but the timing is right. Graduating from high school in 1942 would have made Vivian draft age during World War 2 and, like Bayard Rustin, Vivian may have been a CO. I'd like to improve this article in general, but I'll see if I can find anything that discusses whether he was a conscientious objector. — Malik Shabazz (Talk | contribs) 00:10, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see him this weekend, and ask then. Also, his bio says he is connected to Seminary Without Walls, for which Google returns many different efforts, and that he founded the Black Action Strategies and Information Center, for which Google returns nothing that i could find. I'll ask about these too. --John_Abbe (talk) 07:03, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, totally forgot to ask. Cool guy though, still very much engaged. --John_Abbe (talk) 16:26, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace[edit]

The Legacy Project website says that Vivian was born in Boonville, Missouri (which is in the central part of the state). Breach of the Peace says he was born in Howard, Missouri (an unincorporated area in the northern part of the state). I'm going with the book for now, since he was interviewed for it, and thus likely provided the information himself. Kaldari (talk) 03:49, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Did a google search, etc., and it looks like Howard is actually Howard County, Missouri, which has a wiki link. Boonville is in a differnt county, so still the mystery of the wandering birth of C.T. Vivian persists. Thanks, Randy Kryn (talk) 16:14, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the mystery is a mix-up of the town's name, there is a Boonesboro within Howard County. Could this be it? Randy Kryn (talk) 16:21, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Another potential explanation, which occurs frequently with biography articles, is that his family was living in Howard (the rural unincorporated area) but traveled to a hospital in Boonville for the birth. Your explanation also seems plausible though. Kaldari (talk) 16:36, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Since we don't have sufficient information currently, I'm going to change it back to "Howard, Missouri" for now, since that is what Breach of the Peace says and that is the source we're citing. Otherwise, I'm afraid we'll be violating the Original Research policy. Hopefully another source will be discovered at some point with more specific information.
