Move[edit]

Move back to just New York. Adding state on is stupid and unnecessary. 2A02:C7E:3AA0:9200:D8A1:B886:ED7F:4EC6 (talk) 16:48, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

But we need to disambiguate it from New York City. Dimadick (talk) 12:55, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 10 April 2024[edit]

Capital punishment in New York (state)Capital punishment in New York – No related article for NYC Interstellarity (talk) 13:32, 8 April 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). – robertsky (talk) 02:21, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think the current article title is probably legit due to the practice of denoting either the state OR the city in article titles as natural disambiguation. If there were a parallel article for the city it would be called "Capital punishment in New York City", just like Geography of New York City or Demographics of New York City. Meanwhile, related namespaces that do not include the state or city typically go to disambig pages like Climate of New York. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:48, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What about Capital punishment in the state of New York per WP:NATDIS? JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 03:01, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would support this, but agree it's not uncontroversial. Dicklyon (talk) 17:10, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename Redundant. * Pppery * it has begun... 03:20, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The State of New York may be confused with the City of New York. The current title is clear: deleting "(state)" is not supported. However, the article title may be improved by removing the brackets and renaming in some ways. Cfls (talk) 22:45, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose per WP:PRECISE. New York commonly refers to both the state and the city, and people have certainly been executed in NYC's history, and such executions are likely a notable topic (and an article on the topic would probably make for an interesting, albeit morbid, read). I also oppose @JohnCWiesenthal's suggestion as the current title is WP:CONSISTENT with New York (state). voorts (talk/contributions) 04:18, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. Capital punishment in the United States is regulated by states, so capital punishment in the city is the same as capital punishment in the state. No need whatsoever for the disambiguator. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:22, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. There is no article on capital punishment in NYC and never will be. So, needless disambiguation. Andrewa (talk) 07:31, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Currently, there are no articles with a "Capital punishment in [city]" title, likely because no city in the world has a notably unique history/regulation of capital punishment not captured in the state and/or national-level article. If this move request is accepted, I would support the creation of a redirect from "Capital punishment in New York City" (currently lacks a page) to this state-level article.
