FYI on copyright-free images of Chŏng[edit]

Just an FYI that I've done a lot of searching but can't seem to find an image of Chŏng that is unambiguously out of copyright. Almost all images of him are produced either in the Soviet Union or North Korea.

I sent an email request to Prof. German Kim for copyright free images, but he sent me images that seem to match common images of Chong online. I didn't ask about how he knew those were out of copyright, but I suspect they aren't.

Nobody seems to be persecuting usages of his images, though. Still, not using to be safe. toobigtokale (talk) 20:21, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

renamed page to remove special character[edit]

as per WP:TITLESPECIALCHARACTERS, technically mccune reischauer romanization needs the special char, but it's common enough to exclude that it's fine imo Toobigtokale (talk) 04:53, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Defector?[edit]

I added the cat for North Korean defector to his page. I think he can be considered one, although there's some hairiness to it:

  1. He was never a North Korean citizen. Born in Russia, refused to get NK citizenship just in case he would be purged (he was)
  2. He was 'purged' with direct consent from Kim.

However, he's referred to as one ("탈북자") in several sources, including one from Radio Free Asia [1] and Tongil News [2]. I lean towards considering him one; other than citizenship, he was about as "North Korean" as Kim Il Sung was in many ways, in that they both were closely linked to the Soviets for a long time and served roles in the NK government. toobigtokale (talk) 22:40, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

High importance for Korea[edit]

Putting as high importance because of his significance for Koryo-saram. toobigtokale (talk) 20:54, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
