Lindvall, Terry (2007). Sanctuary Cinema. New York University Press. ISBN 0814752101. —offers a history of the "Christian film", from 1895 onwards. Definition?[edit]

What is a Christian film? Shouldn't defining the term should be an important part of the article? --GRuban (talk) 20:41, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This has been discussed quite a lot, and most people have the opinion of Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Christian films task force#Scope. In short, films that are (1) marketed toward a Christian audience, (2) that contain a pro-Christian message or purpose, or (3) that are made by a Christian film production company. The most significant of these is #2. However, there is some differing opinions on this matter. Perhaps we should include a section, "Definition of a Christian film"? I'm on the wall about this, and it would be hard to get enough sources to support such a section. But yes, the article does need a general definition. I really believe the whole article should be renamed "The Christian Film Industry", since it is the primary focus of the page. Then we also have no need to bother with long discussions every time there comes a studio movie with a Bible-quoting, triggerhappy desperado or a philantropic overclass woman that sees a black kid trough college. The music articles on Wikipedia has a clear distinction on these matters, here is a qoute from the article about "Contemporay Christian Music" "Also, several mainstream artists such as The Byrds, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Elvis Presley, Lifehouse, U2, and rapper DMX have dealt with Christian themes in their work but are not part of the CCM industry.". Christian Film in South Africa[edit]

I added 'Afrikaner' to the sentence "South Africa is particularly hungry for faith-based, family-values films for its predominantly Christian audience" because the only "predominantly Christian audience" in the RSA is the Afrikaners, maybe the English speaking South Africans of British descent but probably not to as great a degree as the Afrikaners (see: Afrikaner,Afrikaner Calvinism, and Afrikaner nationalism.) I had to change the article because just saying that South Africa in general is predominantly Christian is a lie nowadays and so I had to specify the Afrikaners, if y'all want to broaden that to also include the the South Africans of British descent as well then y'all can (but just be sure to come up with the right terminology.)                  You don´t know nothing on south africa, Blacks are more christians and christianized than whites afrikaaners.  British descendant are usually atheists.

The Blind Side[edit]

Add statement that this is predominantly an American thing.[edit]

The Christian film industry is an American thing with some presence in other countries in the world. I think this should be properly mentioned in the beginning of the article.
