Eras[edit]

If "Most of the nave, its entrance door and the chancel arch are original" meaning surviving from the Domesday Book building, they are as likely to be Anglo-Saxon not Norman, unless finished in the last 20 years, when little building was going on. This is a common situation, as architectural historians have been realizing over the past decades that many Romanesque buildings were probably built before the Conquest & the tidy split imagined by the Victorians is a fiction. The situation is best covered by using "11th century" and "Romanesque". Johnbod (talk) 14:03, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re-reading Coppin and Pé confirms that the oldest bits (as above) are Saxon in origin, while the chancel and the window between the doors are Norman, so I've attempted some clarification. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 21:52, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
