Inconsistincies

At the top of the article, it says "DMX" was "derived from a similarly-named drum machine." In his "early life" paragraph, however, it says it came from "an earlier stage name of Dark Man X." Which one is accurate? Second, this 'early life' bulls shit paragraph could use extensive clean up. I don't know what is intended, but the sentence referring to relocating could be rewritten for clarity. Hes actually from Baltimore,Maryland not New York. --129.176.151.10 (talk) 12:54, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

In his autobiography, he states he took the name from the Oberheim DMX drum machine. The retconning of the initials came later, and he wasn't known as Dark Man X until around the time he signed with Def Jam as far as I know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.239.159.6 (talk) 16:14, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

---There's at least 3 different meanings in the article right now. The first sentence uses "Dark Man X" and then "Dog Man X" and on the side information for birth name it says "Damien Matt Xavier". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.238.79.84 (talk) 22:41, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

DMX, Walk With Me Now & You'll Fly With Me Later (2010)

DMX is the self-titled seventh studio album by DMX. It was released on February 23, 2010 .... The date (as of me posting this) is 30 January 2010 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.27.59.92 (talk) 22:53, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

WALK WITH ME NOW YOULL FLY WITH ME LATER

they are two seperate albums, a normal rap album, 'Walk with me now' and a gospel album 'You'll fly with me Later'. This is confirmed on many different websites. therefore i will continue to edit it the correct way. 31 Aug 2007 I have removed all text showing that DMX was shot and killed outside of a strip club on 30 August 2007. There is NO NEWS whatsoever that this event has occurred, and until there is, does not need to be shown in Wikipedia as an unverified entry. There should be more info on various things and the page layout should be better, also add info about his singles.

Seriously though, this entire page sounds so fan boy. So he'a a tuff rapper from the streets. Got any references to back that up?

Somebody keeps putting the career start for DMX at 1998, wherelse in the article, it said that he appeared in the Unsigned Hype Section of the Source in 1991. Whatever the case is, DMX was on Mic Geronimo's The Natural album in 1995, but before that in the period of 1991-1995, he had a video and song called "Born Loser" which was never aired on MTV because of the so-called "violent and explicit" scences in the video. It really annoyes me that MTV would rather play rap videos with cars and clothes, but would not play videos about real life.

This is a response that actually is about Just-Ice. I deleted the paragraph that said that, cause that was v misleading. This article is p bad imo. Im not sure if wikipedia can reference books, but if it can, then DMX's autobiography should be a source.Jnaktheking (talk) 12:48, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

I completely deleted the line about "September 4, 2006 arrests, because it was changed from "possesion for drugs" to "Bum Sex or Anal Sex". Clear vandalism, and the comment didn't seem appropriate anyway, so it's gone now. --le petite robot 17:41, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I completely deleted a line in the exaggerated "criminal history" part of this entry that referenced "violent behavior," which linked to a British newspaper describing DMX "refusing to fasten his seatbelt on a plane." That does not constitute "violent behavior." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.56.48.226 (talk) 04:56, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Why is the criminal record section longer than his other sections? Is there nothing better to talk about than his criminal history? Kittyrue (talk) 22:41, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

There are multiple mentions of "animal cruelty", and I think that it would be useful to specify what this meant, as it is a broad term. Court documents <http://www.aolcdn.com/tmz_documents/1004_dmx_wm.pdf>, released by TMZ.com, go into some detail, and I will leave it to a more skilled editor to report the contents of the court documents in a way that is not OR. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.13.28.140 (talk) 22:44, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Blood boiling dogs?

"DMX is known for his love of dogs, and owns several as pets. On April 20, 2006, he was away from his home and had put up most of his pet dogs in a kennel. The kennel accidentally burned down, killing all animals inside, though no humans perished. In many cases, the animals' blood had boiled in their veins, then burst while they were still alive and spewed red hot blood indiscriminately. DMX, on returning home, confronted the kennel owner and demanded to know where his dogs were at. The owner had no response. DMX has since bought many new dogs to replace his lost pets."

Place of Birth / Real Name

When you search Wikipedia for DMX, the result is DMX whose real name is Earl Simmons. The opening line of this articles says that his real name is Jim Brooks. Then the article continues to make reference to Simmons. The Backgound information shows James John Brooks.

Opening line says he is an English Rapper. Early life says he was born in Carshalton, Surrey, yet the background information says he was born in Baltimore, MD, and is American.

This article has too many conflicts on these basic fundamentals.

I've added a larger issue tag to the article, primarily due to lack of references. The most glaring problem with the lack of citations is in what was previously the "Criminal history" section. I've changed the heading title to "Arrests" because an arrest doesn't imply guilt or conviction, thus negating the arrest as a criminal history. The larger issue with this section is that several of the list entries have no citations and are subject to being removed, which I will do in a few days if no citations have been added. This is a big potential WP:BLP violation and liability issue that needs to be summarily corrected. Wildhartlivie (talk) 20:11, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

What was there was
DMX is a practicing Christian, having many spiritual songs like "Lord Give Me a Sign, "Jesus Loves Me" and also explicit references of God in songs like The Rain. He has mentioned numerous times in live shows and interviews that he has faith in Jesus Christ, conducting prayers after every live concert.[6],DMX prays on stage after a concert, "DMX asks struggling fan to read the bible". Oct 14, 2013."DMX said satan prepositioned him three times".
Aside from being really poorly formatted let's look at the sources. There are four in a single reference, which should not ever be done.
  1. [7] http://hollowverse.com/ is not a reliable source and so cannot be used.
  2. DMX prays on stage after a concert Sound sync is bad and footage of a live concert is a copyright violation. "Father God I'm just learning how to pray" doesn't really support the statements.
  3. "DMX asks struggling fan to read the bible". Oct 14, 2013. This is the front page of the Christian Post, and there's nothing there.
  4. "DMX said satan prepositioned him three times". A clear copyright violation of a CBS program.
Nothing can be used, but we should certainly find something. Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:27, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
Sorry. I should point to the two things I mentioned above
  1. Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources, specifically WP:QUESTIONABLE since hollowverse.com doesn't appear to be published by anyone recognized as a journalist and doesn't have any editorial content.
  2. Wikipedia:Copyright violations: "Copyright infringing material should also not be linked to."
If good sources can be found, sources that meet Wikipedia's guidelines, then I would be glad to help format the material correctly. Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:51, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Birthplace?

Pfft - ya - this would be good to clear up - especially for well-meaning holders of doctorate degrees that contribute to this page. This would be wrong, then: http://www.answers.com/topic/dmx? And this: http://www.billboard.com/artist/300046/dmx/biography?

This didn't sound right to me when I read it either - that's not a native NY accent on DMX. Then I read this person's challenge. Wow...in about 5 minutes I found the two above links - one from the official Billboard site. Seriously editors, you can't get this straight! Would you mind providing a citation that he was born in NY?

2013 Arrests

I am going to re-insert his July 2013 DUI arrest. My edit was removed by STATicVerseatide who alleges that he wasn't charged. A news search showed me multiple news sites reporting over the past 3 days that he was charged. If anyone knows otherwise and can find a reliable source, by all means remove mention of charges being brought. However, the fact that he was arrested is not diminished by the (reported) absence of criminal charges; I would argue that even in the absence of charges being brought, the arrest should remain in the article. DoctorEric (talk) 20:56, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

A source was provided that he was not charged. STATic message me! 21:00, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

DoctorEric says, "I would argue that even in the absence of charges being brought, the arrest should remain in the article". Can you please provide the basis and details of your argument? Would you say that your argument should apply to every biographical article in WikiPedia? What makes DMX's article so special? Are you biased? Would you please spend your time breaking this "Legal Issues" section into two subsections - "Arrest History" and "Trials" - instead of fixating on new arrests without charges? Perhaps this way the article will have fewer redundant and confusing citations in the "Legal Issues" section. It's horribly documented! I'm not convinced the man is any more deviant than your average Iowa St. 21-yr old at a late-night club after a football game. Finally, should you add any and all incidents you've experienced with police on your own biography page? Or if you have none, any other random biography page you choose with one? Why are you different from DMX? Finally, is the "Legal Issues" section written and edited by contributors who are wholly unaware of the history of Maricopa County and its sheriff? Or do they prefer to ignore this context as it might raise some questions about his arrest history in Ariz? DMX and you both are very public, though he's much more famous and it will always be that way. Get over it. I'm impressed that you're motivated to add derogatory information to his bio and advocate its publication.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.245.112.230 (talk) 09:58, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

What Religion/Denomination?

I like DMX's song "Lord Give Me A Sign" but I was wondering, What religion and denomination is DMX? on most Wikipedia pages it lists what religion someone is but it doesn't say it on DMX's page.

--173.168.179.149 (talk) 20:17, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

I'm actually just finished fighting a battle where the discussion was that most biographies don't list a person's religion, and certainly not for musicians. We also discussed whether the religion parameter should list the denomination (the usual practice for Christian subjects) or simply list "Christian". Without a source though, we can't really make any statements. Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:50, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

birthplace

DMX was born in Baltimore, MD. He was raised there to. I forgot what age it was when he moved out of the baltimore area into another city. He was never born anywhere else but in baltimore, md. i mean come on he even stated it a few times in his own songs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leroymcqy (talkcontribs) 10:10, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

Legal issues not entirely accurate

DMX wasn't simply sentenced to six months, he was sentenced to community service and is currently working at IHOP in Buffalo, NY. My Source: I was in jail with him. For proof, take my last name on my username and look me up on VineLink if you wish(my ICN is 117100). While I was in Erie County Correctional Facility with him, he was in Lima for a good while until he started mouthing off to Deputy Devine. He was then moved to Bravo-2(the box) for 24 hours then moved to Nova, cell #1. This is where I came into contact with him. He's just this old man, completely washed up. "Don't you know I'm D, you that ignorant?" "I really don't care who you are. Let me cook my curry. Stop trying to cut in line you piece of sh*t".

There was confusion in Nova, since there are two Simmons, Scott and Earl(DMX). Scott's awesome. — Preceding unsigned comment added by THWoodman (talkcontribs) 13:40, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

I cleaned up the information on the Federal tax related charges. As is often the case when charges are brought in relation to Federal tax crimes, the news media (of which I am a former member) gets some things confused. This individual was charged back in March 2017. He appeared in court on July 14, 2017. The indictment had been sealed from March to July, so the public didn't know about it for several months.
The news media also tends to use the term "tax evasion" as short-hand for "any Federal tax crime under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code." That is a technically incorrect use of the term, but reporters do it all the time. In this case, the individual was indeed charged with seven counts of tax evasion. The other seven counts were for other tax crimes, some of which were misdemeanors (not felonies). I corrected the article accordingly, and added a more reliable source. DMX birth date

@Squidward With Hair: Now that the page is fully protected, we as a group (not just us two, but the regular editors of this article that witnessed your edit war) would like to hear from you as to why you think this person was born in 1963 and not 1970. Keep in mind an interview alone isn't always reliable. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 08:56, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

Not to be offensive, but any rapper that calls himself an "entrepreneur" usually is not being serious. 2601:8C:4001:DCB9:E420:53D6:8423:A145 (talk) 12:34, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

DuckDuckGo Summary

When I searched for DMX on DuckDuckGo, the summary below the link to the Wiki page says "DMX had multiple extramarital affairs during his marriage to Simmons, some of which produced children. DNA testing confirmed that he is the father...", which probably shouldn't be the first thing that people see. Google seems to summarise it correctly: "Earl Simmons (born December 18, 1970), professionally known as DMX, is an American rapper, record producer, and actor. In 1999...". Any idea how to encourage the correct behaviour on DDG? I'm afraid I am too new to make any changes and test them myself. NGSohoni (talk) 09:23, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

DMX is not dead, not sure why this article names 4/3/21 as his date of death as he is presently still living? 174.49.170.94 (talk) 19:24, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. This information has already been removed from the article, and is being closely monitored. ‑‑ElHef (Meep?) 21:20, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Given the frequent changes in information about his condition, it's best for Wikipedia to say nothing more than that he is in the hospital, rather than updating his condition in a way that may turn out to be erroneous. 50.248.234.77 (talk) 03:03, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

Addition to DMX's legal issues

DMX was arrested in front of 12,000 people during a concert at Queen's Park Oval cricket ground in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, Saturday 10th July 1999 after he repeatedly used obscene language during his performance It is illegal in Trinidad to use obscene language in public.

DMX received repeated warnings from police on duty, before he was arrested. Police fired their
guns into the air to quiet fans who became unruly after police cut short DMX's set. No injuries were reported, the rapper, also was charged with resisting arrest, was held in jail until Monday morning July 12th 1999 because police feared he would leave the country if he were released on bail. In a court appearance at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates Court, DMX made a public apology for his obscene language onstage. Krixxsam (talk) 19:31, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
