Photos of Data Loggers[edit]

What are the best example photos of a data logger? I suggest we show the range of data loggers from a simple temperature and humidity logger to a weather station. This will also represent the range of typical costs $40-$10000.

Costs[edit]

What kind of device that would qualify as a 'data logger' would cost 'hundreds of thousands of dollars'???? I would suggest removing this sentence, telling someone the price goes from $25 to a million isn't helpful to anyone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.10.212.9 (talk) 15:03, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Link spam[edit]

Are two dozen external links to commercial websites really needed? I propose cutting the last sections entirely, as they lend little value to the article. --Karnesky 23:16, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Content spam[edit]

No need for overtly commercial content in this article, if you see it, remove it but leave any practical information for applications or technology trends. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SuperMono (talkcontribs) 01:47, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inventor[edit]

"Lon Hocker of Onset Computer Corporation in 1984."

Really ? I was using a data aquisition system in 1972 and a portable logger (The Data Memory) was made and sold by Philip Harris Ltd in about 1980. By 1982 at least several people, including myself, were programming BBC computers in this role. (And I am NOT claiming these as firsts !)

I propose to delete this entry which does not even refer to any detail about "Onset Computer Corporation".

More than one commercial products available pre 1984, I work for one of the manufacturers and our first commercial product was readily available and in use in 1983. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SuperMono (talkcontribs) 02:05, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Campbell Scientific introduced the CR5 datalogger in 1975, CR21 in 1979, CR7 in 1983, and 21X in 1984. https://www.campbellsci.com/history — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.202.248.62 (talk) 01:49, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Applications[edit]

Hello,

I noticed that several applications are not listed in this article; the transportataion industry has many, and one of the most common is Cold chain monitoring. We have an application dropdown list at the top of our homepage that goes to specific data loggers that meet those application needs; feel free to add any of those applications to the list.

Sincerely,

Merge[edit]

Data logging is a similar but smaller article. It should be merged into this one. Rlsheehan (talk) 16:59, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File format[edit]

What is the difference between a .log file and a .txt file in terms of browsing it? For example ftp://support.crtc.gc.ca/logs/Jun15/TOON_1506.log does it alter its searchability? Ranze (talk) 19:25, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

User:Ranze, the file you linked to is an ordinary text file. A filename extension has no effect on the content of the file. Mdrnpndr (talk) 18:37, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
