Decision engineering → Decision Intelligence – Decision Engineering and Decision Intelligence (DI) have split into separate fields. This page is more about DI than DE. There are a number of companies now calling themselves DI companies today, including Element Data (https://www.geekwire.com/2017/decision-intelligence-platform-element-data-raises-another-2-6m-fuel-growth/), Busigence (http://busigence.com/), and Quantellia (http://www.quantellia.com). Also see the Decision Intelligence video channel, at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzrpdMOEKpApfJcPA20KMGA. Information to be added or removed: Request that the Causal Decision Diagram (CDD) from the above reference also be added. It is a key element of DI, because it unifies subsymbolic/symbolic thinking (through using piecewise models from the past in a framework that shows a nonlinear systems model for the future). • A book's listing on Amazon is not typically not used as the basis for a reference. When the book has been published, please provide the {{ISBN}} or {{OCLC}} of the book as well as the |page= parameter so that it may be added to the article as a reference. Recent lead changes reverted

Just some additional info and tips to clarify the recent revert of a good-faith edit: a lead should usually describe its topic in Wikipedia's own words, in a dispassionate and uninvolved language. Quoting a fancy headline ("The discipline of turning information into better actions at any scale."), even from an expert, does not provide an encyclopedic, fact-oriented description, and also gives undue weight to the opinion of 1 author among many. Secondly, Medium is generally considered a platform for "self-published" (kind of) blogs. While blog sources from acknowledged experts are occasionally permitted under certain circumstances (WP:BLOGS), it would be much better to base a topical definition on a summary of reputed publications with editorial oversight and fact-checking. Either way, the quote shouldn't be in the lead in this form. GermanJoe (talk) 08:28, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Decision intelligence vs. engineering

The distinction between decision intelligence, decision engineering and other related fields must always be based on explicit statements in reliable, uninvolved expert sources. It should not be based on an editor's own knowledge (WP:OR), or the interpretation of sources that do not explicitly make this distinction (WP:SYNTH). The current handling in a passing mention seems to be relatively uncontroversial, but further improvements would need more specific details and some reliable sources explicitly verifying such details. Also, such sources would need to be independent - how companies would like to define certain terms as part of their PR strategy is irrelevant for an encyclopedia (unless such definitions are taken up more widely by other experts and become common usage). Review of move to "Decision Intelligence"

How are people feeling about the move to "Decision Intelligence" now that we are a few years out? It feels like just a marketing term to me. I've reviewed all the sites I could find on the term, and all of them are very vague as to what it actually means. Something about 'data and AI'. None of the provide concrete examples or images, just buttons to "request a demo". And most establish the relevance of the term by pointing back to the same Gartner opinion piece. They don't really sound like what the description of "Decision Engineering" originally was. Dustin184 (talk) 23:00, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
