I think Freshman basketball should be removed as a state champion. Freshman teams are obviously not part of the VHSL state tournaments as they are not varsity teams, they are not even junior varsity teams, and even JV teams don't have VHSL state tournements. "Douglas S. Freeman High School is a well known and highly respected high school." - This information is subjective. Where does that come from?

"...Freeman (1886-1953), who was long the editor of the Richmond News Leader." - is this grammatically correct? At the very least, it's awkward.

"The Commentator (the newspaper)...The Educator (the literary magazine)...The Historian (the yearbook)..." - The parenthesis need to refer to the school (i.e. "school newspaper" not just "the newspaper")

"Since 1980, Freeman High School has had an intense rivalry with nearby Mills E. Godwin High School." - subjective.

"The two schools meet during the regular seasons of all sports (which causes sellouts, intense crowding and taunts from both teams)". - evidence?

"This rivalry has also been known to extend into debate, individual events, and quizbowl." - again, refering to this rivalry and content to just say "has been known." If there is a rivalry, does it, or does it not extend into these events and how can it be proven?

"The Girls Cross Country team of 2006, recently placed third at the VHSL State Meet." - date needed. When did they place? Yesterday? A week ago?

"...and Mrs. Bridget Reichert Students at the Center..." - punctuation, maybe a period and/or a line break between "Reichert" and "Students". Also this is poorly worded. Do all the students at the center do the things listed, or are these just the goals of the center? "This page is a mess. Legitimate additions of athletic records were poorly added, overwriting and making a jumble of the now-untitled Notable Alumni section. This was likely how, as noted above, someone ended up credited as author of The Mammoth Cheese--which would be Sheri Holman, Class of 84. Fair use rationale for Image:Time-DouglasFreeman.jpg[edit]

Image:Time-DouglasFreeman.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Cleanup[edit]

I removed the academic titles from the infobox and text per the guidelines at MOS:TITLE, which discourages use of those titles in an article. Also, the main picture needs replaced. It is missing copyright info and is directly from the school's website, meaning it is copyrighted. A public domain version can easily be obtained by anyone who has a digital camera and can upload the picture to Wikimedia Commons. The only time the use of copyrighted images is justified is if no free alternative can be found. --JonRidinger (talk) 15:48, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know, I've been trying for awhile now to get a picture. I am unable to obtain any other image of the school, and I believe that HCPS (the school's county) has no actual copyrights on the picture; I go to the school and it probably was taken by a student as part of a photography project. Help with getting this pain in the butt picture on the wiki would be much appreciated, although I am already in accordance with user:danjel. You should always assume that a picture on any website is copyrighted. While most districts and schools likely wouldn't object to having the file on the article, copyright is always assumed and to avoid any question now or in the future, you either forgo a picture or you go take a picture of the school on your own time and with your own camera. Uploading the picture from the school's website and then saying you took it yourself isn't a good idea. Since you apparently do not own the copyright for the image and are unsure about its status, you cannot assume there is none. I'm not totally sure what you mean by "being in accordance with danjel". He has offered some great advice to get the article improved. As for an image or a logo, while it certainly is preferred to have an image, it must be done within the proper Wikipedia copyright and image policies (see WP:IMAGE). A logo would need proper copyright attribution and an image of the school should just be in the public domain. In the end, it's better to not have an image than to have one that is a copyright violation.
My advice is that while it's great you have school pride and a desire to have a good article, make sure that translates into the formation of an informative, unbiased, and well-sourced article that conforms to Wikipedia policies and guidelines versus what many well-meaning editors do: create a promotional page that says "look at how great my school is" full of trivia and other "facts" that really aren't that important. Henry Alcaine[edit]

Hello @Rpmccracken: I'm responding on the talk page of the article since it is easier for me to follow up on Wikipedia than on my email.

In response to my removal of your addition of "Henry Alcaine", there is nothing notable about this person. A simple google search on this person dismays any thought or idea that he is a "prominent historical re-enactor", as the only interesting website found about him is a milesplit website showcasing an unimpressive 800-meter time. The other things noted about him, a Maymont volunteer and part of the class of 2018 (oh yeah... and cap-wearer?), seem like borderline trolling to me.

These sections on high school articles are usually riddled with various people thinking it is humorous to add their friends with so-called "funny" descriptions. For the future, we add notable people to the any school's notable alumni - not some Tom, Dick, or Harry. Please keep this mind when adding more people into other school's notable alumni.
