Based on[edit]

The article indicates that the cartoon series is based on the 2010 film How to Train Your Dragon, but the actual episodes say that it is based on the book series by Cressida Cowell. Season 3[edit]

For a while now, an unknown user has kept adding things on this page and on the list of episodes page. They keep adding that there will be a season 3, called dragon masters, and also stuff about astrid's family life and gobber getting a dragon. This is all unsourced, and the wikia page which the info comes from does not list its source, so is therefore unreliable. All this is unsourced, and it also seems strange that season 3 would go agains the naming pattern and be called dragon masters, it makes more sens that it would be called masters of berk. Whoever keeps adding this information, please STOP, and, in light of these recent events, it seems like we need to get this page protected to stop unconstructive edits such as this. I don't think this is reliable, it doesn't list where its info is from and also seems odd in the naming pattern. Also, this doesn't support the things about how many episodes there will be, and whether or not it will feature gobber getting a dragon or astrid's family life, all of which is added Frogkermit (talk) 21:56, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I know where that information comes from. One of the directors working for the show tweeted it, see [1] and [2]. However this sort of information is far too trivial and in-universe to be included on an encyclopedic page. With regards to season three, the same director has said [3] that only season two has been confirmed. Bugg Toys & Licensing reports and publishes info about licensing, so their info comes directly from licensing and marketing departments of production companies. I would not worry that the season 3 breaks the naming pattern - we have a source that it will be named "Dragon Masters" and we should state that fact in the article (maybe along with the Sanford's quote that the season 3 hasn't been greenlit yet).--Carniolus (talk) 16:43, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Series titles and rhyming slang[edit]

The titles for the series include the word "Berk". As someone very familiar with British English, it tells me that those responsible for naming the series have either a charming naivety or a complete disregard for an alternative use for the word.

To further sharpen the point, Berk is in common use in the UK as a word for a person who is, umm, disliked. It is an abbreviation for "Berkshire hunt", which is rhyming slang for a somewhat taboo word for a specific part of the human female's reproductive equipment.

Given the presence in the series of such characters as Fishlegs, Snotlout, and Barf and Belch, it wouldn't surprise me if the word was used intentionally. But, given the stereotypical sensibilities of many in the USA, I wonder.

With Berk present, It might receive a "difficult" reception in the UK, so has anybody some information about re-titling the series for a possible UK release? Twistlethrop (talk) 01:39, 12 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To remove DreamWorks from the title[edit]

It is unprecedented that a company name is included in the title of a show, when officialy it is not part of the shows title (neither on Netflix nor on Hulu or Peacock). Consensus and status quo cannot protect such questionable decision that someone made in the past (most likely someone directly connected to the show or DreamWorks itself) and it stuck. Oppose Wikipedia prefers secondary sources over primary sources, per WP:PSTS: Wikipedia articles should be based on reliable, published secondary sources and, to a lesser extent, on tertiary sources and primary sources. These can includes sources as Deadline, Variety, The Futon Critic, Collider, to name only a few. All of these are considered preferrable sources in the WikiProject Television. Well, I can supply reliable secondary sources that call it the proper way: Collider, Decider, The Hollywood Reporter. I think its unreasonable to disregard the primary source in this case and even unfair to DreamWorks itself. A company has a right to name its IP as they wish, they can even change the title as time goes on if they wish, and just because some industry sources consistently call it one way, that does not make it ok to call it by some imaginary name. Oppose per WP:NATURAL. I concur with the OP that a company name is seldom included in the title of the show, but this one seems commonly known as "DreamWorks Dragons" (i.e. it's not just an ad-hoc label added by Wikipedians), and is titled as such even by IMDB, Variety, and the DreamWorks themselves do not seem shy about it: [4] The official site for How To Train Your Dragon and Dreamworks Dragons. Watch trailers, clips and videos, play games, explore the world and discover dragons! We should rephrase the lead, though, to avoid the impression that "DreamWorks" is a proper part of the series' title. No such user (talk) 13:15, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My alternative proposition would be to keep the Dreamworks' Dragons name as a collector page where we list the wikilinks of all the Dragons series (now there is 4 and if we count the season 1 and 2 of Dragons separately which have subtitles, then 6). I can see why Dreamworks would occasionally refer to its franchise as Dreamworks' Dragons, because the title Dragons is too generic for a TV show, but I still stick to my stance that its misleading to include the Dreamworks prefix in front of the titles of the individual series. Is Race to the Edge a separate series under the same brand?[edit]

I posted about this at the episode list, but is Race to the Edge even considered to be the same series? A continuation, yes, but you can buy Race season 1 on DVD. Not Dragons season 3; Race season 1. Is there a source that treats it otherwise? —96.8.24.95 (talk) 10:36, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
