Examples in separate sections[edit]

example belgium (eid) + estonia (eid) ;)83.134.210.39 (talk) 12:12, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I modified the article so that the definition of eID is kept universal, while the details pertaining to the Belgian eID are kept under a heading "Belgium". This leaves room for the presentation of the eID employed in other countries (Estonia, Italy and the Netherlands come to mind right now). The incentive to make this change was the need to reference the term eID in an article about Estonia, which, I believe, should not direct the visitor to the Belgian eID page. However, I would appreciate receiving comments on this. Rentzepopoulos (talk) 09:01, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious mentioning of the Dutch DigiD[edit]

In the section "Netherlands" the article states: The Netherlands has an electronic ID called DigiD. That may be true in itself, but it is a dubious statement in the context of this article, because DigiD is not an electronic identity card, but merely a unified login for governmental and other official web sites. According to Dutch wikipedia (article nl:Identiteitskaart the Dutch identity card is a contactless smart card since 2006, but it is simply called Identiteitskaart (Identity card), not DigiD. I've just scrutinized mine and indeed, it seems to have a chip embedded near the upper right corner. Still trying to find more information on line, I'm planning to update the article accordingly. eIC not defined[edit]

In the first paragraph the article suddenly mentions "eIC" besides "eID". It is however not further defined and it is unclear if this is just a typo or a different instrument or technology. This should be clarified further.
