Partisan article.[edit]

This article is produced and maintained by a supporter of the Fine Gael party. It has no factual basis. There is no 'official opposition front bench' in Irish politics, neither is there a 'Leader of the opposition' or 'official opposition spokespersons.' The sole purpose of the article is to inflate the status of the Fine Gael party.

This article should be deleted because it is untrue in its entirety and because it seeks to use Wikipedia in a party political way.

I think the article should be moved to Fine Gael front bench; it's currently transcluded in {{Fine Gael}}. Relevant parts can be refactored into Fianna Fáil front bench, which article will be needed after the 2011 election. jnestorius(talk) 20:09, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What happens after the next general election then? Assuming there is a change of government. Snappy (talk) 20:21, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What do you envisage happening to Labour Party (Ireland) Front Bench? I envisage each of these articles listing all the relevant front benches since the foundation of the party, noting in each case whether the party was in opposition or in government. Other issues:
  • Some parties in coalition choose not to nominate spokespeople for departments where the minister is from another party.
  • "Front bench" is not very accurate for the current article given that it includes all the shadow junior ministers.

I agree with your proposal. I suppose the issue is that FG and Labour have been in opposition and FF in power since before Wikipedia began, so this hasn't arisen before. The Deputy spokespersons are included for completeness, even they are not front benchers, maybe the articles should be called Fine Gael spokespersons though I think Front bench would be better. Given the unique and unprecedented (afaik) situation of an FF government and a separate but overlapping FF frontbench (plus a Taoiseach who is not the party leader), I created the Fianna Fáil Front Bench and moved the Opposition Front Bench (Ireland) article to Fine Gael Front Bench.
