Infobox - Ethnicity

Can I ask why the infobox for Fiona Bruce has been editied to include "ethnicity". As well as starting a frankly quite pathetic and deeply childish series of edit wars as verious people seek to re-classify her in one way or another, why on earth should her ethnic backgound matter? I notice that the infobox for Jeremy Paxman does not specify he is "English", and the one for Sir Trevor McDonald doesn't give his ethnicity as "Black". Do we now have to re-edit every single person on Wikiepdia that has an infobox accordingly, and seeing the controversy here, who exactly will decide which little "ethnic" box people are classified into? Port Sunlight

French & Italian fluency claim parked

I can't confirm the claim...

...that was added a couple of years ago by Browne-Windsor (talk · contribs) (diff) and then sourced (diff) by Verogall (talk · contribs). So I've removed it from the article pending checking. Unilever

I realise that the Observer source cited does indeed say that her father was managing director of Unilever, aka Lever Bros, but I don't think it is correct. I suspect the significant word "a" has got lost somewhere between the interview and the printing, and that he was MD of a Unilever division rather than the worldwide company. Eg: [1], [2], [3], [4]. There are indeed some other sources that omit the "a" but I've spent a bit of time going through old Unilever annual reports and can't find a mention of him on the worldwide company board. On the other hand, there is a John Bruce mentioned here who may or may not be the same person. - Sitush (talk) 22:58, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

Feline mannerisms?

The "Parody and humour" section says that in Dead Ringers, "Bruce is parodied by Jan Ravens, ruthlessly exaggerating her idiosyncratic feline mannerisms through overt sexual innuendo." I don't know what "feline mannerisms" are or why this sentence presumes that Fiona Bruce has them. In what sense does she behave like a cat and how would behaving like a cat be parodied with sexual innuendo? I'm also changing the phrase "overt sexual innuendo," because innuendo is by definition not overt. Sadiemonster (talk) 04:23, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

I feel you may have been too harsh. The source from The Daily Telegraph does say this: "In the BBC2 comedy series Dead Ringers, the impressionist Jan Ravens exaggerated this idea of Bruce as a feline temptress, purring to camera, “Hello, I’m Fiona Bruce and I’m sitting on the luckiest chair in Britain.” Does Bruce, a respected BBC journalist of 20 years’ experience, mind being portrayed as a current affairs sex symbol?" But we might also want to consider this example? It's BBC so could be added as a source. Not sure that current description really stands up alongside this. Feline or non-feline. Diane Abbott

This was on the page:

Soon after joining Question Time, she attracted controversy and accusations of racism for the way in which she introduced Diane Abbott, the first ever black woman British MP, as a guest. She was further criticised for the manner in which she then emphatically but wrongly corrected Abbott who had accurately stated that Labour and the Conservatives were about level in various polls.

Well, to me this focuses a wee bit too much on the person Bruce, and not enough on QT and the BBC. Since DA has clearly stated it's not about Bruce specifically, maybe this is better reported on the QT page? Also I note that the Independent source is an opinion piece. I would prefer it if we could replace it with a more calmly neutral news piece.

The other problem with the current phrasing is "attracted controversy and accusations of racism." It's very clear, from the one source provided, that a fairer wording might be e.g. "Diane Abbott complained that..." or possibly, in line with the BBC source "The Labour Party lodged a formal complaint about ..." S-media sorting

I started an attempt at sane sorting the s-media box (very end of article) in a chronological order (one alternative would be by programme name) but gave up. The order would then be:

• News at Six
• Weekend
• Crime Watch
• News at Ten
• AR
• QT

The last three would share the same Incumbent box.

"Moved reference to Reflist as the body text was getting difficult to read"

Gricharduk changed one out of many references with this edit summary, yet I see no discernible difference. What became so much easier to read to justify a special treatment of this particular reference? <ref name="difficult"/> to be specific. To me, it looks the same (except the reference being shifted a few words), needlessly adding an unusual and complicated reference structure? Please educate me because I don't see it.
