No prior flags?[edit]

Does anybody else have trouble accepting the idea that for its first 77 years of statehood, even throughout the Civil War when its regiments were marching into bloody battles, Arkansas had no flag? IfYouDoIfYouDon't (talk) 11:32, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Units had flags and most of the time it was a blue flag, with a white border, with the information in the center. As a resident of the State (and author of the 2011 legislation about the state flag), there is still a lot of mystery to this flag. I do hope to shed light on this issue for you, but from what I seen from documents in the 1870's, nothing. The closest thing I found to a flag in the 1870's was something used in an ad hoc fashion by the state. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:46, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
But also a lot of states had the same issues too; if you look at this 1917 book by Preble, you can see a lot of states did not have flags or they just used flags that were military banners. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:09, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Confederate design[edit]

This flag look to be inspired by the Confederate War Flag. Cut in in half, sew the hoist to the fly, and you have something that looks very like the confederate starry X.

Is there any account in the original debate on the flag that mentioned this? They certainly had the Confederacy on their mind. as they put a star in the flag to represent it. 2601:647:667F:8610:985C:C79D:3F18:7B5A (talk) 19:58, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Confederate symbolism[edit]

This flag is plainly based on the Confederate war flag; the “starry x” flag. The X has been cut in half, and the two pieces flipped to form a diamond. Is there any contemporary discussion of this? 2A00:23C7:E284:CF00:2956:8673:454C:742E (talk) 00:02, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Confederate Symbolism in Lead[edit]

No one is doubting there isn't Confederate symbolism in the Arkansas state flag. Unlike some other states, the symbolism isn't a defining characteristic of the flag so it doesn't warrant mention in the lead. It is covered later on the article. If others disagree feel free to add it to the lead. Thanks! Nemov (talk)

Incorrect Flag Image?[edit]

It appears the image of the flag on this page is incorrect. It doesn't match the descriptions cited below of "four blue stars, one above, three below the word. On the blue band are placed 25 stars" and I have never seen a flag with this appearance before. It appears to have been this way for many versions of this page before now. Is this a mistake or some sort of visual problem on my end? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ShawstinAu (talkcontribs) 18:05, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm seeing the same. The current image is definitely wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.120.139.124 (talk) 23:49, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sill incorrect as of 25 Jun. It looks like Flag of Arkansas.svg was changed — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.92.139.131 (talk) 20:47, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Flag of Arkansas.svg wasn't changed, it's a visual bug affecting multiple people. By opening the image, the flag appears correctly. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9d/Flag_of_Arkansas.svg 24.92.139.131 (talk) 21:04, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing out, especially IP24. This is indeed a visual bug and I've posted this issue at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Flag of Arkansas.svg rendering inappropriately. People will greater knowledge about this issue will look into it. Thanks again! CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 21:29, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
