This book: Renewable and Alternative Energy Resources: A Reference Handbook, Zachary Alden Smith, Katrina D. Taylor, ABC-CLIO, 2008 - says this: Although he had very little formal education, Shuman's passion for scientific research landed him a position as a chemist at the Victor G. Bloede Company of West Virginia when he was just 18.
