2011 shooting[edit]

what was the name of the student? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.54.4.66 (talk) 07:42, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't really matter- WP:BLP applies, especially WP:BLP1E. tedder (talk) 14:38, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I never asked what your opinion was on the subject,so your reply is pointless to the definition. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.54.4.60 (talk) 07:27, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, we have policies stating when it is or is not appropriate to name a person. There are times when a source names a student, but we choose not to use the name (such as Star Wars Kid) - However, I don't see the student being named in sources, so we absolutely cannot include the name. He might have been a minor. Lars Frierson (talk) 22:16, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Changing Demographics[edit]

I saw that there was a "needs clarification" tag next to the text which says that Hispanic gangs began to appear in the 1980s. I attempted to make this clear by giving the reason why GHS no longer was a "Crip school" - it was due to the changing demographics of South Los Angeles. This is true - Compton, Watts, and really all of South L.A., including Gardena, became mostly Hispanic during this period when they had once been majority black . User:Grayfell removed my clarification, calling it "dogwhistle filler", whatever that means. This makes no sense. I am trying to improve the article. I'd appreciate some help. Removing my edit does not do that - I need an explanation in plain English. Thanks. Lars Frierson (talk) 05:57, 22 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Find a reliable source which directly says that this was caused by changing demographics, and summarize only what that source says. Do not add original research, which includes first-hand knowledge or personal speculation. Grayfell (talk) 10:39, 22 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I could do that, but it might be easier to just delete the sentence discussing the school formerly being a "Crip" school until Hispanic gangs began appearing, since it was not cited and could fall under the auspices of original research. Do you want to do that or should I? Also, what the heck is "dogwhistle filler"? Lars Frierson (talk) 20:33, 22 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

‘Dogwhistle’ means a secret signal to racists. Accusations of that type are often used whenever anyone brings up the subject.

What would be of interest is a properly sourced explanation for the changing demographics over the years. 2A00:23C3:E284:900:905C:FA0E:BF11:398D (talk) 19:45, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

City Limits[edit]

The school is not in the city limits, but is almost completely surrounded by the city. It looks like this was done deliberately, to not have the school in the city. Why?2A00:23C3:E284:900:905C:FA0E:BF11:398D (talk) 19:47, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
