Tale of Genji versus Tale of Heike[edit]

In a lot of North American PR released concerning Genji: Dawn of the Samurai, it is claimed to be based off of The Tale of Genji. Considering that The Tale of Genji is about a courtier and his romantic exploits - no mention of samurai or warfare - this is an obvious blunder to anyone who has read the two tales.

However, I'm not sure having read the two tales counts as "original research" and so I have provided a reference where The Tale of Heike (平家物語) is mentioned as the inspiration for the game. Unfortunately, I could find no credible resources in English (only blogs and personal commentary) and thus have provided a Japanese video game review that mentions Heike as inspiration. I hope that this is admissible.

If anyone can find any credible English internet resources that would be great.

What is real time weapon change?[edit]

After reading the section, I still have no idea what it is.--Ssj4android 05:06, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

lol, I'll tell you the answer to that, just lemme tip this crab first so I regain my massive damage.....

Basically, real time weapon change is the reason to live.(but seriosly, it is changeing weapons during the game without going to a menu)Qwerasdfzxcvvcxz

Vandalism[edit]

Wow, there's a lot of "giant enemy crab" and "massive damage" vandalism in this article...

And I understand that guy from the press conference mentioned "real-time weapon changing," but did he really say it was only possible on PS3 hardware? Because I find that very hard to believe. I never watched the whole conference, but from what I have seen, (*cough*SonyConferenceInOneMinute*cough*) it looked to me like he just quickly mentioned "real-time weapon changing," not proclaim it to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. --Foot Dragoon 01:48, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Official quote "There are a lot of great new features for this game...such as real time weapon changing..." --Guest

Right, but my point is is that it seems like he was basically mentioning it off-handedly. If anything, it was probably a slip of the tongue, not like he's proclaiming "Holy crap real-time weapon-changing will blow your mind!!!"--Foot Dragoon 23:04, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look, he obviously meant that, as opposed to the first Genji game, Genji 2 utilizes a weapon-switching system. Everybody who blew this out of proportion are reactionary twits. Poechalkdust 22:23, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's just that the producer of the game felt that the feature could only be done on the PS3. That is all. 24.188.203.181 06:36, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He obviously meant that Giant Enemy Crab needs to be in the characters list. I mean, it lives and feels this game. We would be doing Sony a great dishonor to not include Giant Enemy Crab.

It's been a few months since a wiki vandal made me giggle out loud. Perhaps I'm just easily amused =( Roffler 21:36, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Phil Harrison presented?[edit]

The article claims that Phil Harrison did the disastrous Genji 2 presentation. I don't know if he was at it or not, but in the video that includes the "giant enemy crab" and "massive damage" and "realtime weapon change" comments, it was certainly not Phil Harrison, at least if the Phil Harrison article is right. Harrison is the British guy (who said the "no external sensor required" comment at E3), while the Genji presenter was not British, and unlike Harrison, wore eyeglasses. The article makes multiple references to Harrison, so I was reluctant to change it right away. Am I right that the infamous presenter of Genji was not Phil Harrison? Added clause in first paragraph for additional clarity[edit]

Rougemacabre is quite right, there is much confusion about the game's inspiration, unsurprisingly, since the game is called "Genji" but is *not* based on Tale of the Genji, and is instead based on Tale of the Heike. Having studied a bit of Japanese history, I was also very confused. To address this head-on and minimize confusion, I explicitly stated in the opening paragraph that it is not based on Tale of the Genji.

Concering the above issues: Phil Harrison himself did not take the controller and give the presentation - it was one of the developers who had a slur ("realistic ashun game") and was probably not a native English speaker. This is imho the main reason for his funny lines. In any case, the presentation is indeed very funny and thus not exactly blown out of proportion, as I believe most people realize that he did not actually mean real-time weapon switching was new to videogames. It is funny, though, becasue Genji 2 was supposed to be a shining example of the "new dimension of gameplay" that the PS3 would allow, but instead we are blessed with "new" features like being able to switch weapons without going to a menu - gasp!

I think the presenter was a native English speaker, but was just very unprepared and/or low on sleep. What was with the E3 presenters, anyway? They only had a few basic things to demonstrate, and all of them, without fail, stumbled over their words and otherwise had poor stage presence. It seems they could have paid some actor (who was also a gamer and so would understand the situation) to present, and could have done it just as well. MrVoluntarist 15:12, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Then it wouldnt be a funny =( Plus this builds hype; I WOULD kill myself some giant enemy crabs this winter... if not for PS3's pricetag. Roffler 22:58, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted!?[edit]

Why was the E3 presentation part of Genji 2 deleted? Its certainly relating to the game and will forever be part of it. To not include the details of its E3 presentation would be like to deny putting up Tom Cruises couch hopping antics at oprah and instead simply stating 'he was in a movie about aliens'.

/agreed. We should probably make an article about the sequel however, and stick it in there instead. Roffler 22:33, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some confusion[edit]

This article claims that this game was released on 9/20/05. "Genji 2" redirects to this article. That Sony guy could not have possibly showcased an already-released game at the E3 2006, and for the PS3 (if it was released for the PS2 as the article says). Further, the title has apparently been renamed to Days of the Blade, so should the article be moved likewise, or is that a separate game altogether (as the third paragraph implies)? Hbdragon88 07:12, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's because there are a lot of idiots who are unaware of the fact that before Genji 2, there was in fact a Genji... 1. So they keep editing this article thinking it's about the PS3 game, and some of the stuff in the article relates to it. Would someone just make an article for Genji: Days of the Blade, and have Genji, Giant enemy crab, etc. redirect there? They're two separate games. --Impossible 11:21, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So this is Genji 1, then? So Genji 2 should redirect to Days of the Blade? Hbdragon88 23:12, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Katana VS Kodachi[edit]

Does Yoshitsune use 2 katanas or kodachi?I suggested kodachi cause it is very hard to weild 2 katanas at once.86.138.175.128 12:46, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
