Proposal to deletion[edit]

Please do not delete my work as this is the first completed article I have written. Please enlighten me on what should I change so I can improve this article's content. Meiwuzhang (talk) 12:36, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Meiwuzhang, I'm sorry your first article got such a needlessly hostile response. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia and beginning the article on this very interesting book. It will not be deleted because it passes the notability guideline described at WP:NBOOK, which says that any book with two separate reviews is considered notable enough for an article. In general, it is a good idea to link to book reviews in the article, so everybody can see how the book is eligible for an article. One of the most important requirements on Wikipedia is to cite information to reliable sources, which usually means things that are published (like newspapers and books) and never things that have user-submitted content (like GoodReads, wikis, and blogs). So, in this case, it would improve an article to add a section called "Reception" which mentions how the book is described in reviews like these: [1][2][3]. You could also add a section called "Background" that includes some information about how and why the book was written, using published interviews like these: [4][5]. Eventually it might be nice to make the plot summary a little shorter, since they are usually only about 500 words. If you have any questions while you are editing, or would like some help with research or writing, please feel free to ask me any time on my talk page. I think editing Wikipedia can be one of the most fun and rewarding hobbies, so I hope you end up wanting to do more of it! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 05:02, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, it looks like @LEvalyn already said a much better version of what I just posted on your talk page, @Meiwuzhang! By the way, did you notice that this article was added to the Novels wikiproject? If you want to keep writing articles about novels and authors, you might want to look at WP:NOVELS and WP:BOOKS. You can find advice and information about writing books articles there, and you can join the projects too if you like. -- asilvering (talk) 06:10, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciation[edit]

Hi, this is Meiwuzhang, I am deeply grateful that while I was not editing for the past many days, some kind editors have improved my article. Thank you! ~^^¥@ Meiwuzhang (talk) 10:09, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Meiwuzhang, have you had a look at this page? -- asilvering (talk) 16:50, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
yes @asilvering, I have seen that an editor has added words to the two sections, 'Background' and 'Reception'. Meiwuzhang (talk) 00:50, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that was me, @Meiwuzhang! You can see who added those things by clicking on "view history", which should be a tab near the top of the screen if you are using the desktop version of the site. But what I meant with my earlier comment here was, have you had a look at the thing I'm hyperlinking. To make myself more clear: click these words here. -- asilvering (talk) 02:43, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I actually came to the article to add secondary sources. I'm also working on another article titled 'Open: A Boy's Wayang Adventure'

The draft unfortunately got declined twice. The first decline was because I forgot to add secondary sources. So I tried to add in secondary sources but after I published it, it got declined again, second time. I later realised that there is a technical error where I tried to make the changes and trying to add a blockquote but after I publish it, there seemed to be no changes at all. What should I do? Meiwuzhang (talk) 06:00, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Meiwuzhang I'll reply to this on your talk page! -- asilvering (talk) 07:55, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Community Tech bot The last time I checked, the oahe does not seem to exist. Meiwuzhang (talk) 12:38, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Community Tech bot oahe is actually a typo error, it's supposed to be page. Meiwuzhang (talk) 12:39, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Community Tech bot Oh I get it now, bit what am I supposed to do? Meiwuzhang (talk) 12:43, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Community Tech bot Crap, typo error again, bit is actually but Meiwuzhang (talk) 12:44, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Meiwuzhang:: what this means is that the book cover is a copyrighted image so it can't be in Wikimedia Commons, because Wikimedia Commons is only allowed to have completely free/public domain images. It is still ok to use a copyrighted book cover image on a book’s article under “fair use”, but it can’t be put into Wikipemedia Commons, there is a different way to do it. (Doing this other way will make it clear to other people that they can’t take the image and re-use it.) Only the image is being deleted right now and it’s the right thing to let it get deleted. Since it’s a little fiddly, I’ll fix the image in the article and you can see how it is different. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 19:12, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, it's up! If you want to upload book covers in future, that falls under "fair use" only on articles for the book itself. To upload a copyrighted image that you want to use under fair use, click "Upload file" on the left sidebar and choose "Upload a non-free file" (the second, smaller button). It has some questions to walk you through the relevant details-- you can see how I answered them for this image here. Oh, and in general when you reply to a bot, the bot won't respond, since it's doing things automatically -- you can ask me for help directly by writing {{ping|LEvalyn}}.~ L 🌸 (talk) 19:33, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@LEvalyn Alrighty, looks a bit lighter now....but oh well. I'm fine with it. Thanks. 🙂 Meiwuzhang (talk) 04:14, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Meiwuzhang You can adjust the colours if you like. The important thing is uploading it the right way - through Wikipedia (not Wikimedia Commons) as fair use, like L did with this one. -- asilvering (talk) 05:49, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Noted. Meiwuzhang (talk) 15:52, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
