Highway 401[edit]

I think when highway 401 is mentioned in the article, it should also be cited as the deadliest highway in North America Canking 00:14, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, to go in that sense, the number one cause of death among young people is due to car accidents. People should not fear to be attacked in any city but to be crippled by a careless driver. In the UK, I use the Super Voyagers made by Bombardier and we can see that we travel at double the speed of cars, this is when the motorways are not clogged (which very often the case in the England). It is pitty that these Super Voyagers are not seen between Quebec City and Sherbrooke. They apply the tilting mechanisms developped on the LRC. (Laurentien 18:53, 3 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I'm often surprised that there is so little talk of Detroit and Chicago connections to the "Corridor" - there is a transborder economic region here, which can be significantly strengthened to the mutual benefit of both countries by making same-day travel possible. Canada to Argentina[edit]

Have any studies ever been made on how long it would take to travel from Canada to Argentina on a high-speed train ? It sounds futuristic, but such a thing could eventually become feasible with the development of new technologies. ADM (talk) 19:49, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't heard of such a plan specifically, but occasionally the idea of building a railway (for freight) across or under the Bering Straight. Here is another article. I also saw something once with a map showing a hypothetical system of super highways that connected the Americas, Europe, Australia and Africa, but now I can't find it. Well, if you are just imagining, for fun, you could just estimate the distance, and average speed. My very rough guess is that from Quebec City to Buenos Aires would be about 10,000 km. At an overall average speed of 250 km/h (about what high-speed trains do now), the trip would take 40 hours. But, as TastyCakes said, you would have to traverse many countries: Canada, US, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina, at the very least. Maybe more, depending on route. Allowing passengers to pass through all these nations without extensive security checks, passport validation stops, would require a level of international cooperation that has never before been seen with these nations. And then the cost... Many of the Central American nations the line would pass through are extremely poor, how could it be funded?
So I agree, as an imaginary idea, it's very cool. But the reality of politics and money raise major obstacles to it actually happening. For that reason, i doubt any serious studies have been undertaken. —fudoreaper (talk) 23:21, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The following text seems to have a conversational, rather than encyclopedic, tone: However, during the 2012 Alberta provincial election campaign, none of the four main party leaders would say that they deny the need for one, but are saying that it is a "maybe." broad gauge requirement[edit]

Rail network in USA and Canada should be converted from 4 ft 8+12 in (1,435 mm) standard gauge to 5 ft 6 in (1,676 mm) Indian gauge (broad gauge) and electrification at 25kV 60Hz AC overhead lines before they have their high-speed trains. They should get broad-gauge low-platform-compatible rolling stocks.

London-Kitchener-Toronto line[edit]

I've updated the page to include a recent announcement (April 15, 2014) about a proposed line linking London, Kitchener and Toronto. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/liberals-promise-high-speed-rail-in-kitchener-within-10-years-1.2610303

I placed it under the "Quebec city-Windsor" section, as the London-Kitchener-Toronto route would fall roughly in the middle of such a line.

Does this deserve its own section? I have added a "cleanup template" as I noticed that this line has also been listed under "other proposed routes". Frankly, I suggest that it either be kept under the Quebec city-Windsor section, or given its own distinct section. Also, images/maps should be added to help readers understand potential routes.
