[Untitled][edit]

This article has a really good history of monasticism within the Russian Orthodox church.[1] LoveMonkey 16:46, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fork?[edit]

What's the point of this fork? It makes editing rather difficult. I have edited Russian Orthodox Church at length before discovering this page. Should I merge all my edits here? This does not appear practicable. --Ghirla-трёп- 13:35, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Ghirla. I created this fork. The primary purpose of it (as with many other "History of..." articles) is to allow for a much longer and detailed article to be written without making the primary article excessively long.
Now, I admit that the need for this article is debatable given the relative sizes of this article (48kb) and the parent article Russian Orthodox Church
This article alone is 48kb in size and the Russian Orthodox Church article is 55kb in length. Within the Russian Orthodox Church article, the History section is 42kb in length which suggests that there is substantial duplication between that section and this article.
This suggests two possible strategies...
(1) Merge this article back into Russian Orthodox Church
(2) Continue expanding this article and reduce the "History" section in the Russian Orthodox Church to a summary, removing excessive detail
I would argue against approach (1) because it would make the Russian Orthodox Church article even bigger and therefore less readable. Also, this is a minor point but getting rid of this article would deprive History of the Eastern Orthodox Church of a simple Wikilink.
I would suggest, therefore, that we adopt approach (2) which suggests that you should move your edits from Russian Orthodox Church here and summarize the "History" section in that article accordingly.

Hi, Richard. I appreciate you reply, but I simply lack time to move edits to and fro. What I'm reasonably certain about is that the account of the history of the church in Russian Orthodox Church, especially before the 19th century, is rather cursory, so there is no question about "removing excessive detail", at least at this point. --Ghirla-трёп- 19:24, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK... what if I move your edits to the "History" section of the Russian Orthodox Church article here and then ask you to make all further edits regarding "History" to this article rather than to that article? The goal would be to keep that article from getting much longer while putting any additional content of a historical nature here. Is this acceptable to you?

Patriarch Nikon[edit]

I don't know how to question the neutrality of articles, but the following paragraph, lauding Nikon as a brilliant mind, is quite biased. See, for example, alternative reading in http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~mes/russia/moscow/history.html (from which I think the paragraph below the following paragraph was copied, verbatim, without citation).

Someone posted this directly into the article text. I moved the comment here and placed a npov tag. --Illythr (talk) 21:27, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The author also forgot to mention that the Soviet Union rescued hundreds of millions of people from the idiocy and exploitation of ancient sky god worship. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.41.79.54 (talk) 17:09, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV[edit]

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 14:52, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because no analysis of evidence has been given that the current version of the article contains any copyvios, only that it was (allegedly) created by a "copyright violator, all versions tainted". Oh really, you have checked every single version of this article and discovered that they are all "tainted", have you? --Smeat75 (talk) 19:34, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
