Main Photo[edit]

I changed the main photo to Coble's official Congressional portrait a few days ago and someone reverted it. Most Congressional pages that I have seen (including Richard Burr, Virginia Foxx, Mark Meadows, Robert Pittenger, etc.) use the member's official portrait. I would like guidance on how to debate this topic/ resolve the dispute- but I think that official portrait should be used at the top of this page. I am new to Wikipedia and unsure of how to proceed. I am changing the photo back for now. NC Voter2016 (talk) 10:01, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Longest serving[edit]

Added correction to the bio indicating Coble is the "longest serving Republican Congressman in state history." That record is currently held by fmr. Rep & Sen. Jim Broyhill (served in the House from 1963-7/1986), and Coble will not exceed it until July 2008. 69.247.131.177 14:11, 8 May 2007 (UTC)DJJones74 08 May 2007[reply]

Internment controversy[edit]

Discussion[edit]

I removed the text below because it violates WP:BLP: all controversial text in bios of living people must be supported by a reliable source, or removed from the article. (The one source cited is not at all "reliable" as Wikipedia defines that.) Please do not put this text back into the article with adding the necessary references. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 13:42, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removed text[edit]

In 2003, Coble, then the chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security, told a local radio show that the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II was necessary for their protection. However, Coble said that he strongly opposed similar measures for Arab-Americans.[citation needed]

Nonetheless, the remarks drew fire from several quarters. For example, the California State Assembly unanimously passed a resolution demanding that he step down from his subcommittee chairmanship.[citation needed] Coble later apologized for his remarks.

American Renaissance, a white nationalist magazine, sent Coble an article supporting his view and received his personal thanks. [1]
