Request for edit, general updates

Hello. I'd like to propose some updates to this page. There is a new CEO and some updated facts & figures. As I have a conflict of interest (working for IKEA), is there anyone who can make these updates? I've included relevant third-party sources below.

  • There were over 2.3 billion visitors to IKEA's websites in the year from September 2016 to August 2017, source: https://highlights.ikea.com/2017/facts-and-figures/  Not done Any secondary sources? I don't really know how this is notable.

Hi Stwrhbgmon, I have fulfilled all of the edit requests, with the exception of website visitors. How about adding an infobox for ikea.com with the site's Alexa Internet ranking instead? Daylen (talk) 01:36, 9 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Daylen, thanks for making these updates! Adding the Alexa Internet ranking to the infobox sounds like a good idea. --Stwrhbgmon (talk) 14:49, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

The second paragraph says: "The IKEA group has a complex corporate structure, which the European Union has alleged was designed to avoid over 1 billion Euros in tax payments over the 2009-2014 period.[17][18]" If you read the source material, you can see that it's the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament who alleges this, not the European Union.

The second paragraph says: "It is controlled by several foundations based in the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.[19]" There is no foundation in Luxembourg (Inter IKEA Holding SA, which no longer exists, was based in Luxembourg). Inter IKEA Group is owned by Interogo Foundation, based in Liechtenstein and established in 1989. INGKA Holding is owned by Stichting INGKA Foundation in the Netherlands.

Number of stores: As of February 2018, IKEA owns and operates 414 stores in 49 countries. Same source as before; the latest store opening was 26 February 2018 in Israel.

The last sentence says: "Most of Ikea's stores and factories are owned by INGKA, a holding company that in turn is controlled by the Stichting INGKA Foundation" The factories in question belong to IKEA Industry, a company that used to belong to INGKA Group but was sold in 2016 to Inter IKEA Group.

A paragraph about Australia that had been removed, was put back on 7 January 2018. IKEA Australia used to be operated by two companies. But since 1 March 2017, all IKEA stores in Australia have the same owner.

Notes

  1. ^ This claim statement was altered to specify that the claim originates from members of the European Parliament.
  2. ^ You did not specify whether the holding company in the Netherlands, INGKA, still maintains control. Thus, only the claim for Luxembourg was removed. You did mention that INGKA's connection to IKEA was severed in a subsequent request (covered by Note letter d). But your mentioning of it applies only to that claim statement — not the one covered by this note.
  3. ^ This reviewer has no knowledge of what source was used "before". If this change is desired, kindly provide references which substantiate it.
  4. ^ This claim statement was altered to specify that the INGKA group was previously affiliated with IKEA. Please be advised that this state of "previous affiliation" does not apply to the claim statement covered by Note letter b, as that request failed to specify INGKA's status.
  5. ^ This part of the request was not specific enough. COI edit requests must include complete and specific descriptions of the request, that is, specify what text should be removed and a verbatim copy of the text that should replace it. Your request to "Change the section regarding Australia" is not acceptable, and has been declined. The request must be of the form "Please change X to Y"

Spelling of brand

I learned that according to the Associated Press the name of the company should be spelled as Ikea and not IKEA: https://twitter.com/apstylebook/status/712688973626413056. This article is 99% spelled as IKEA. I can only see 1 instance of Ikea (caption of the image of the location in Hyderabad in India).

ICE77 (talk) 15:53, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

On the IKEA website it's written as IKEA and not Ikea. I think the website of IKEA would have the right branding, right? Also, many spelling error fixers change it to IKEA, such as Chrome. – BrandonXLF (t@lk) 21:05, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
As someone who works for IKEA, I can confirm the official spelling is in all caps. However, there was a previous discussion about this issue in connection to the Wikipedia style guidelines (I think in archive #4), and then it was decided to write it as Ikea. I am in favour of writing it as IKEA but I of course fully respect the need to comply to the website's style guidelines. Stwrhbgmon (talk) 07:20, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Jesper Brodin

I want to contact an editor that can help create a page for Jesper Brodin, the CEO of INGKA Holding. I have followed the guidelines and added a request on this page but the it is inactive. I am employed by INGKA Holding so I have a conflict of interest, which is why I am hoping to get in touch with someone that can create the page. Jesper Brodin meets the criteria of notability, especially as INGKA Holding has begun transforming its business. I have a drafted text as well as sources to reference, if needed. Request for edit, general updates

Hello. I'd like to propose some updates to this page, related to facts & figures. As I have a conflict of interest (working for IKEA), is there anyone who can make these updates? I've included relevant sources below.

Infobox

  • Number of locations: 424 (December 2018) [1]
  • Revenue: EUR 25,516 million (2018). [2] [3]
  • Operating income: EUR 1,962 million (2018). [4]
  • Net income: EUR 1,449 million (2018). [5]
  • Total assets: EUR 21,482 million (2018). [6]
  • Total equity: EUR 7,298 million (2018). [7]
  • Number of employees: 208,000 (2018). [8]

Intro, third paragraph

As of December 2018, IKEA owns and operates 424 stores in 52 countries. [9] In fiscal year 2018, EUR 38.8 billion worth of goods were sold, a total that represented a 4.5 percent increase over 2017. [10] [11] [12] The IKEA website contains about 12,000 products and is the closest representation of the entire IKEA range. There were over 2.5 billion visitors to the IKEA websites in the year from September 2017 to August 2018, and 957 million visits to IKEA stores. [13]

  Edit request partially implemented

  1. Green tickY The employees and number of locations were updated.
  2. Red XN The financials were not updated, as the provided figures were of such contrast to the prior year's totals that it is assumed a minor mistake may have been made in their calculations.[a] The COI editor is urged to check the figures again and advise.
  3. Red XN The paragraph was not updated for the reasons given in number #2 above.

Notes

  1. ^ Please note that while the proposed figures were given in Euros, the article itself gives these figures in US dollars. Irrespective of either currency, the figures still diverge greatly from the prior year's totals.

Response 18 December 2018

Thanks for your edits, Spintendo!

The previous year's figures were not the global figures. They were only from the Ingka Group (previously knows as the IKEA Group), the largest IKEA franchisee, as you can see on the first page of the previous source: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/doc/general-document/ikea-read-ikea-group-yearly-summary-2016__1364331441303.pdf

But now that I'm looking at this again, I realise that some of the figures in the Infobox are hard to define. There are many different companies operating under the IKEA Brand, each with their own financial reports, so there are no global financial figures. What we can define globally is: the number of stores (424), employees (208,000), goods sold (EUR 38.8 billion), store and website visits.

Pronunciation of IKEA

I'd like to take note now that, for 4 years, IKEA has said that the pronunciation for IKEA that is commonly used, as is shown in the article, is not "eye-kee-a", but rather "ee-kay-uh", as if it were spelled EKAYA.

For references, see these.

This really should be changed, considering that eye-kee-uh is technically improper pronunciation... A normal peep (talk) 17:45, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
I'm a bit late to the discussion, but do we even really need to include an English pronunciation for a Swedish brand? The article already gives the Swedish pronunciation, and the "correct" English pronunciation is just an approximate of that, so why even include it? Besides, most English speaking people still don't pronounce it that way, rather pronouncing it eye-KEE-uh, and they're going to do that no matter what Wikipedia says.
