Donkey Kong etc.[edit]

I don't know. This is one of those fascinating parts of Japanese gaming folklore that just never made its way to the Western world until recently. That does not IMHO detract from its truthiness. It's not my fault all the sources are in Japanese. :-( I don't have the Pong book with me ATM, but I'll work to obtain it and include the relevant text as a footnote with a translation (per WP:V#Non-English_sources). You're right in your edit that "claim" sounds like a weasel word. I have deleted it. "Some sources" is necessary though because as far as ENGLISH-LANGUAGE WIKIPEDIA is concerned, this IS a FRINGE theory. Please read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Fringe_theories . "Folklore" is right. Here is another relevant section of the Wikipedia guidelines: Undue Weight under Neutral Point of View.

Of particular interest: "From Jimbo Wales, paraphrased from this post from September 2003 on the WikiEN-l mailing list: If a viewpoint is in the majority, then it should be easy to substantiate it with reference to commonly accepted reference texts; If a viewpoint is held by a significant minority, then it should be easy to name prominent adherents; If a viewpoint is held by an extremely small (or vastly limited) minority, it does not belong in Wikipedia regardless of whether it is true or not and regardless of whether you can prove it or not, except perhaps in some ancillary article." Ikegami is remarkable because the company has only ever made broadcast television camera equipment. It doesn't even make the broadcast video recorders which have been built into some of its cameras. This is in contrast to the likes of Sony, Hitachi and Philips which have manufactured wide ranges of consumer items alongside their broadcast cameras. It seems bizarre and unlikely that Ikegami would have made a brief foray into the world of popular computer games. Earldelawarr (talk) 09:14, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you guys insist that it is a "fringe theory"? The infamous "DESIGN IKEGAMI CO. LIM." it's imprinted on ALL Donkey Kong mask roms on a fixed address, this is verifiable, it just requires a ROM reader (how this isn't a reliable source, the code for the game itself?) and it is documented on the internet, as in Gamasutra, and in literature too. It has a neutral point-of-view and it is NOT original research (see sources). If you have another source, add it to the article. Gamasutra is just referencing the same sources. They don't get to be a special authority just because they are popular or you like them. The same goes for GDRI, they aren't special. Doctorx0079 (talk) 01:48, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
