Editing websites to remove information[edit]

If government departments were editing non-government websites, such as Wikipedia, to remove information, what page would that belong on? 118.92.183.189 (talk) 08:07, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you have evidence that government departments are editing Wikipedia to remove material critical of them, please post to Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard.

It is not in general a problem if someone is making constructive edits to Wikipedia from a government IP address if there is no conflict of interest (although they may be subject to workplace procedures governing use of the internet). Removal of unsourced or irrelevant information can be a constructive edit.

A government department with a policy of removing information from other non-government websites despite that information being legal, relevant and reliably-sourced is likely to be of interest to the mass media. If they report on this, then a mention might be appropriate in the Wikipedia article on that department.

An individual making unconstructive edits to other websites from a government IP address is largely outside of Wikipedia's concern. If you have evidence that this is happening, you might like to talk to a reporter.-gadfium 00:18, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
