Cleaning Up Article[edit]

Hey, I would like to bring this article up to Wikipedia standards. In its current state there are multiple issues with notability in the article, especially in the Achievements section, specifically duration of coverage. I would also like to organize the page in to prose and reduce its use of bullet points, which are discouraged by the Wikipedia Manual of Style, as well as remove dead links from the page and add proper citations. In the drop box below is a sample of how the article will look if the changes are implemented. Johnston High School is a public secondary school located in Johnston, Iowa. It is part of the Johnston Community School District. The school serves approximately 1,300 students in grades 10 through 12. Its principal is Brent Riessen and its associate principals are Jerry Stratton and Randy Klein.

Achievements

English teacher Sarah Brown Wessling was named the 2010 National Teacher of the Year.^[1]

Athletics

Johnston High School's Iowa High School Athletic Association sanctioned teams include baseball, men's and women's basketball, bowling, men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, women's softball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field, women's volleyball and wrestling.^[2]

I like the changes. You removed the WP:FANCRUFT and unsourced statements. I don't think you need to wait for any consensus to make the changes because you are following the guidelines for school articles and policies on acceptable and sourced content. My only change would be to switch around the mention of the teacher of the year. Rather than have President Obama mentioned first, have the teacher mentioned first since it is her achievement that is notable about the school, not President Obama (Example: "English teacher Sarah Brown Wessling was named the 2010 National Teacher of the Year by President Barack Obama." You could even leave out the president's name too since the president is mainly the announcer of the award. I don't believe he personally chose the award). I'd also just eliminate that section all together and put that fact in with the history of the school (a section which obviously still needs to be created and developed). I also recommend using Template:Infobox school over the current template. It's mostly a preference, but I think it presents information in a clearer way, especially in regards to the location (street address and geo-coordinates). --JonRidinger (talk) 03:33, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
