Untitled[edit]

I'm not an expert on the copyright of wiki, but I took it the image had come from the wiki translation already present in the Chinese dialect on Goforth. As the one who entered the Canadian aspect of his biography from Presbyterian Church in Canada documents (obit, General Assembly Accounts, etc.) I will and here have provided them--I did send a "thank you" note to the one who started the entry. weasely wording?[edit]

In the article as it stands is the phrase "he claimed to sense a call from God". Now people may not believe in God so should we write "he claimed to sense a call from a deity that may not exist that he claimed to call God" ...!? No. Can't we just say "he heard a call from God" or better still find a citation with his own wording? Pbhj (talk) 22:10, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

sorry to answer myself but one bio (end of Section I) puts it thus:

::As Goforth heard these words he was "overwhelmed with shame." He describes his reactions as follows: "There was I, bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ, daring to dispose of my life as I pleased. Then and there I capitulated to Christ. From that hour I became a foreign missionary."

So it would seems a matter of obedience wrought by conviction that he should serve, not at all a "call from God" in the sense of a voice (which the phrasing here suggested). Pbhj (talk) 22:28, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
