Why was this page created, and without discussion[edit]

Kimmage the suburb, the logical target under WP: Common Name policy, was fine. No way is the mildly well-known Paul Kimmage to be confused, still less the more obscure cyclist, or two sound but barely notable irganisations. Should this not at least have been subject to a talk page debate? Now the clumsy formation of Kimmage, Dublin must be used, even though there is no other Kimmage place, links will be broken, etc. Can this be reversed?

I don’t know. There should have been some consultation. The fact that there is no other simple “Kimmage” to distinguish from, and that dozens of articles link to the place called Kimmage, means this move was questionable. Paul Kimmage, the cyclist, is not sufficient basis, as he is not comparable to or confusable with the centuries-old place. Likewise with an organisation named for the place; by that logic every placenane might need a DAB page. Yes, the move can be reversed, but more input would be welcome.SeoR (talk) 12:18, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This surname disambiguation page is a good approach, and leaves the relevant two bio articles correctly homed and linked, and Kimmage the place, with over 170 inward links, is restored to its original setup.SeoR (talk) 09:00, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@SeoR: I've changed the categorisation from {{disambig}} + surname parameter to {{surname}}. This page works well for me - Kimmage, Dublin is clearly the WP:PTOPIC. Yrs, Narky Blert (talk) 12:50, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Narky Blert: Many thanks, sounds great. Yes, on the topic, some in Dublin even say the name comes from the place. And thanks for other tidying I’ve seen. I’m caught up in WP Irl backlog checking, 3.5k done, 11.5k to go, and don’t always catch some aspects. Best,SeoR (talk) 13:27, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
