Missionary propaganda?[edit]

The small portion referring to Derozio deleted by Bakasupraman was based on information in Tattwabodhini Patrika and the Bengal Renaissance by Amiya Kumar Sen, formerly lecturer, Calcutta University and Principal, City College.

In his letter of resignation, Derozio wrote, “unexamined, and unheard, you resolve to dismiss me even without the mockery of a trial.” This is mentioned in History of the Bengali-speaking People by Nitish Sengupta.

Derozio was an aetheist (mentioned by Nitish Sengupta). I am not aware of any Christian missionary support for him. The only person who tried to help him was David Hare, apart from the Derozians.

While I accept the deletion because it is related to Derozio and not to Krishna Mohan Banerjee, I would like to be enlightened about this being missionary propaganda.

Because in a book by Stanley Wolpert, it states that Derozio was actively trying to convert Hindus from the college. Calling his firing unwarranted and giving Derozio's voice to the page seems like propaganda to me. It adds little to the article.

Fair enough. Cite the book and page. It seems a little odd, given that Derozio was an outspoken atheist. Hornplease 00:25, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not to say that calling the dismissal unwarranted was relevant. Hornplease
