Kuay, Kui, Kui Souei, Kuoy, Kuuy, Kuy, Old Khmer, Soai, Suai, Suay, Suei...

Is this the same language called Kouy in French, taught by one of the Parlons series of books from Harmattan? Seems likely, since they list the same geographic areas and say Kouy is one of the 2 main dialects of Cambodia (Parlons Kouy). Not sure how far to go on listing foreign spellings, but existence of a textbook seems significant. Kim9988 (talk) 21:05, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Kuy and Juk?[edit]

They are completely separate languages. Broadly, they are both Austroasiatic languages, but they descend from separate sub-branches, meaning they are only distantly related. Juk language is classified in the Bahnaric languages subfamily while Kuy is part of the Katuic languages. The Bahnaric and Katuic branches have no common innovations and so do not form a valid node within Austroasiatic. Katuic languages are probably most closely related to Vietic languages while the Bahnaric languages have more in common with Khmer and the Pearic languages. In the more narrow sense, Kuy itself is most closely related to languages like Bru while Juk is most likely a divergent dialect of Jru'.--William Thweatt ^Talk^Contribs 05:09, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
