Rowing[edit]

To my knowledge, the school has a long rowing tradition, and the current entry suggests otherwise. Anyone with more contextual knowledge than myself might like to amend this part. David Gates

the rowing at Lancaster is woefully underfunded, and while there is a strong movement within areas of the school, it is still eclipsed by rugby and cricket, thus not allowing it the chance to blossom as it gud elsewhere

Rowing seams to outperform the other sports on the national stage, especially considering the funding difference, rowing has 2-3 qualified coaches and 4-5 qualified launch drivers to my knowledge. The master I/C of rowing at the moment is David Yates and the club has had reasonable success in regional and national sculling races MugHolder6110 (talk) 04:51, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

TMC[edit]

I am led to believe that at some point the was a reference to The Monday Club on this page. Does anyone know who by or why it was deleted?

If the origional author cares not to rewrite the text, or if no-one responds to answer my question, I myself will comment on it.

clean up[edit]

This page requires a pretty major cleanup, the main points which should be addessed are;

  • One 'citation needed' tag throughout the whole article - this seams pointless, either removes it or put them in throughout the article
  • the first line does not flow 'Lancaster Royal Grammar School (LRGS) is a state grammar day- and boarding school for boys in Lancaster, England' think the word day is misplaced
  • Three sections only have one sentance, sections should therefore be merged and use more sentances
  • Dates do not match, in the info box it says the school was formed in 1235 yet in the main article it says 1472, it should be made more clear when it was actually formed.

There is no confirmed date. I have done the best I can quoting a reliable source. Dmgerrard (talk) 19:32, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • There is some fairly inconsistant wikifying, the number of red links here suggests that some people wikified in the article are never going to have an article so shouldn't be wikified. There are a few wikilinks (e.g. in the first line 'state grammar' and 'LGGS' which are obviously broken.

Hope someone has time to clean up the page, I was just directed here from another page so I don't have the knowledge on the chool to sort it myself RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or lets have banter 11:49, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I would say the CCF section needs to be looked over. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.175.82.48 (talk) 13:41, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone explain why the School Song has been removed. I don't understand "(-nonencyclopedic content) " Dmgerrard (talk) 15:47, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Houses[edit]

Can anyone confirm that the houses shown are correct? It is some time since I was at LRGS but the houses then were Bradshaw (brown), Vincent (red), Owen (green), Singleton (yellow), Light Blue, Dark Blue, Ashton (white), and another name for black (can't remember though).

Forms were numbered from 2 up to 6, and included a Shell year as follows: 2L, 2R, 2G, 2S, 3R, 3G, 3S, 4 Alpha etc, so is this where the house letters came from?

I can't remember what black was either. Can't find any online info as to whether they remain the same today. We need someone who is there. In my day the 2nd Form apart from 2Alpha were lettered from the surname of the Form Master.Dmgerrard (talk) 20:04, 24 August 2011 (UTC) Afterthought. Was black DEED? Dmgerrard (talk) 20:11, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Owen house was Light green and Curzon house, Dark green, and Deed house, Black. In my day (1968-76) and my brothers (1971-79) the forms were in lower school (up to O-level), 2-L,R,G,S, 3-R,G,S 4 Alpha,R,G,S Shell Alpha,R,G,S and 5-alpha R,G,S. The upper school(A-level) consisted of a lower and upper sixth form. JohnMuzy (talk) 15:48, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
