If you have some reason why you can't edit the article, please explain enough that someone might take sympathy on your request. Mburrell (talk) 06:01, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please post some links to the respective albums' announcements? I was unable to find any that would say that an album is planned definitely for 2014, let alone for a particular month. (In Lana's case, most regretfully.) YLSS (talk) 21:09, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Citations and when are they redundant, on a summary page?[edit]

IMO, where a release has an album-wikilink (dedicated article or anchor linked into the artist-article) and all the information in the release's table-row is verified on that wikilink, then any further citation is redundant. – Ian, DjScrawl (talk) 12:14, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose there's supportive Wikipedia style/philosophy on summary info' but further to that, on List of ... albums pages, overall maintainers of this page will generally not know release details as well as release/artist-article editors (thus, as usual with 'double coding', redundant citations are likely to: engender cruft and lead to a fruitless reduction in motivation/focus in the editor community). – Ian, DjScrawl (talk) 12:14, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

NB: Where authority resides with a album-wikilink, this might be clarified with an {{n/a}} in the Ref. column – also supporting the management of cruft removal. – Ian, DjScrawl (talk) 12:14, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

BTW: In view of the above – and given that only rows with an album and/or artist wikilink are allowed – I would rather the Ref. column were merged into the Album ... but that's another story, involving close consideration of novice/prete-novice editor ergonomics. – Ian, DjScrawl (talk) 12:14, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I can't say that I've ever been a vehement proponent of referencing just everything, but that is an overall tendency of WP. Have a look at e.g. List of natural satellites or other Featured lists - every entry has several references. There was indeed an incident when an admin (Cirt) reverted quite relevant additions by Defender miz to List of 2013 albums just because no refs were provided (check Defender miz's and my talk). Adding refs to the 2013 list would be beating a dead horse; the present list, on the other hand, is still short, so I aim to maintain it at a good level. I agree that it is sufficient in practice to provide a link to an article about an album, but it won't hurt to reference it in the list as well. If you know of any policy about skipping references on "summary info" lists, please provide it; my experience is to the contrary. Several more points: 1) If there's an article only on the artist and not on the album, a ref should certainly be provided, regardless of the contents of article on the artist: it would not be straightforward to find a ref there. 2) There is a common notion that since this is an English Wikipedia, and since the USA are on top of the world, albums should be listed at their date of U.S. release; and often this date is also shown at the top of an article on album. So it is always better to provide a ref with the date of the earliest release (in Australia, Japan, Ireland etc.) 3) What do you mean, "overall maintainers of this page will generally not know release details as well as release/artist-article editors"? Personally, I always consult the page on the album to check a) the earliest date, b) whether the album has been postponed or something. Indeed it's quite a hard work to maintain this list, you know! 4) Leaving aside the matter of adding an entry for a wikilinked album, removing a relevant reference that has already been provided is certainly bad style!
