If you think a contemporary artist belongs on this list - is there an article?

Are they she/he notable? Modernist 12:23, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Charles Banks Wilson. Dreadlocke 18:32, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of American painters[edit]

I'll start by quoting remark made by a previous Wikipedian contributor:

"Why did you remove artist Josh Gura from the list of American artists? Where is your master list of referral?" (that was written lately -on July 12th, if I remember rightly).

Elisabeth Cottier Fábián - That was an unsigned message left by an IP address on June 14, that was dealt with by an administrator with this message:

WP:COI Please do not add your own name to lists of artists. Tyrenius 04:02, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That IP address made a total of 6 edits, and hasn't made an edit since June 14.

I'm making exactly the same remark.

Why did you take out two names of artists I'd added to this 'List of American painters'? These refer to the following:

1. The case of "Alice H.Weil": granted, removal of her name MAY be best; there're quite a number of talented, well-known 'plein air' painters in North America (both in the USA and in Canada), so if we decide to put in one of them, why not all the others... That's an acceptable suppression.

BUT !!

2. How can you take away the name of "Yovan Radenkovitch" (1901-1979)??!! Just look up 'AskArt', or 'Davenport', 'Who Was Who in American Art', or ANY serious source of information about American art... You might also look up his numerous New York exhibitions, between the two World Wars.

The well-known painter that Radenkovitch was MUST be integrated here. He may not be as 'fashionable' nowadays as a few others (often less talented): that doesn't affect the fact that he DID become an important American painter. (You may not know his work- that's quite another matter.)

I am, of course, replacing Radenkovitch's name from where you took it; and assuming that a whole -separate- article may concern itself with contemporary 'Plein Air' painters in the USA (AND Canada); in such an article, such names as Sergei Bongart, Robert Goldman, Donald Curran, Susan Greaves, Alice Weil, Karl Thomas... (and many, many others) would have their place.

I hope you'll not be offended by my remarks: I don't wish to offend, but to add to the Wikipedian project all I've grown to know about contemporary art (and American art, more specifically).

Best regards: Elisabeth Cottier Fábián 00:32, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message, - With all due respect to you, the artist you mention: Yovan Radenkovitch, has 29 google hits - total, has no Wikipedia article, which explains why his name is in red ink, and is somewhat obscure...to say the least, and as of now doesn't merit inclusion. The other artist you mentioned, Alice Weil is less known, the movement you cite - plein air painting in the USA and Canada sounds like a nice idea for an article, give it a try. In fact, why not write an article about Yovan Radenkovitch also. Thanks, Modernist 19:40, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Write the article: then add the link to it. Tyrenius 00:24, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commercial art[edit]

While commercal art is a related profession; this list is a list of notable fine artists..who generally create works that serve their own individual artistic direction; and who have achieved notability in their field, either through significant museum and/or gallery exhibitions or inclusions in important public and/or private collections over the course of a career and not the place to list commercial artists. Notability[edit]

Have Randy McCurdy and Allen McCurdy achieved notability in their field, through significant museum and/or gallery exhibitions or inclusions in important public and/or private collections? If not, why then should they be included in this list? Coldcreation (talk) 00:36, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not finding much in the way of WP:RELIABLE sources for either artist on Google. The addition appeared to be made by a WP:COI account. JNW (talk) 00:53, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Born?[edit]

Do we need "born" on the DOB for those artists who are not yet deceased? WP:MOS seems to say "Birth and death labels are included only when needed for clarity." Since a single date clearly means birth and no death yet, do we need "born"?ThatMontrealIP (talk) 16:39, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Artist groups and collectives[edit]

What about artist groups and collectives? Would they belong here or somewhere else? I am thinking of MSCHF, who are recent, but there are also groups like Ant Farm and Paper Rad. I'm just wondering where they belong.--- Possibly (talk) 01:18, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
