Fraternities, reordered by date of campus founding[edit]

This is an example of how the list looks when ordered by founding date. Other similar WP pages listing campus Greeks use a similar format. I think it honors pioneer chapters nicely. The dormant chapters are similarly ordered. Comments either way? Unless there is a chorus in objection, I'll boldly make the change in a few days, along with the sororities and MGLCs. Dormant Fraternity Chapters

Alternative proposal: table-ify[edit]

Nice work, but what would be a lot more useful in my opinion is to put it into a table so that readers can sort it however they choose: by foundation date, by letters, by English name, by national conference, and so on. Additionally, this would let us list chapters by their actual founding, rather than alphabetically by founding year, at least on the initial screen. While this does make for more scrolling than the current list format, we could also save some space by integrating the lists together, as for housing. As a proof-of-concept, consider this: -- choster (talk) 19:18, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Name Status Activity Conf. House Ownership Notes
ΖΨ Zeta Psi Active 1868– NIC 534 Thurston Avenue University, CURP House VIII
ΧΦ Chi Phi Active 1868– NIC "Craigielea," 107 Edgemoor Lane University, CURP House III
ΚΑ Kappa Alpha Society Dormant 1868-1990, 2007 NIC 14 South Avenue University, CURP House VII House currently occupied by ΦΣΣ
ΑΔΦ Alpha Delta Phi Active 1869– NIC 777 Stewart Avenue Private
ΧΨ Chi Psi Colony 1869-2014, 2016 NIC 810 University Avenue Private [1][25]
ΔΥ Delta Upsilon Active 1869– NIC 6 South Avenue University, CURP House VI
ΦΚΨ Phi Kappa Psi Active 1869-1877, 1885– NIC "The Gables", 525 Stewart Avenue University, CURP House VII [1][26]
Circling back on this change, it seems to have been accepted with no negative comment. The page has been in its current format, with chapters listed by year of founding, for well over a year. Recently I made a slight adjustment based on early Cornellian yearbooks to correct the founding order of the first four fraternities at Cornell: Zeta Psi was the pioneer, and three more formed that same year, now listed in order of date as the yearbooks agree happened. I like the table view. I find it easier to parse, and better to sort as mentioned. There is also precedent for tables in similar fraternity list articles. See List of fraternities and sororities at San Diego State University and List of Jewish fraternities and sororities which both use similar tables. What do we think about switching this page over (and updating some information)? Samfriedmann (talk) 06:55, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. I could be convinced that this is even more useful than the current format. Full disclosure, I did the layout of the current format. I don't necessarily support insertion of the column that declares ownership type, as the need for this information is not common for the majority of page searches. Jax MN (talk) 18:01, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well you know more about this than I do. I am inclined to switch to the table if you think that's a good move. Samfriedmann (talk) 21:15, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
