Simon Mol's entry - repeated simultaneous removal of reliably sourced content by two accounts

@Elaqueate and Dougweller

Information icon Please do not remove sourced content. As per your edit here and similar here, you removed the RS content of "with his case affecting the political climate in Poland, as Poland quickly introduced mandatory HIV tests for all future asylum seekers etc." taken from an academic book (and not a "newspaper article" as you falsely claim), which adds weigth to Mol's entry thus enhancing the articles' encyclopedic content. Removing sourced content without discussing it on the respective talk pages violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and defeats its encyclopedic purpose.

  • If you are unhappy with non-sourced content, add [citation needed] so that another editor may amend it.
  • If properly sourced content is too long for a box, trim it, retaining the salient points and the quote from the reference.
  • If you feel that the source is still not RS, escalate it so that we may discuss it with other neutral editors there.

And always seek consensus before your such non-standard and controversial actions.

Thank you. Zezen (talk) 18:54, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

This is a navigational list of articles with predominantly one-line directly personal summaries. There is no special requirement to "add weight" to the description beyond any other entry in the article. None of the other descriptions included a paragraph about the long-term effects of the Polish political scene. That's a version of WP:COATRACK and WP:UNDUE. This is a list of biographical articles, not a single person's biography, and certainly not a summary of a nation's politics. The source citing his death was dated before his death. Hard to call that reliable support for the material without proof of prophetic ability. WP:LISTPEOPLE is clear that you didn't have the sources to place him in that specific section. This is a Wikipedia:Featured list, which means it has to maintain standards for neutrality and accuracy to keep that designation.__ E L A Q U E A T E 19:32, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
I share Elaqueate's perspective. Why not just put this extra information in the article for that person? Blue Rasberry (talk) 20:16, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
Well there you go, Zezen. Consensus. But don't use templates when you don't understand them please. My reason had nothing to do with sourcing but adding material to the section on criminal tranmission of HIV about someone who had never been convicted of criminal transmission. That was not 'non-standard' and really shouldn't be controversial. We don't call acts or people criminal without a conviction. You also added material that simply was not relevant to this list article. Dougweller (talk) 21:11, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Can Pedro Zamora be added to the list of AIDs activists? Right now it just says he is a celebrity, even though he was actively educating since his diagnosis, it talks about it on his wikipedia page.[1] and here's some other citations (I don't think wikipedia counts?)[2][3]

Question: Perhaps the word "activist" as well as some of the references could be added to his already existing entry in the Film, television, and radio section. Thought? Topher385 (talk) 12:10, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
We don't include people in the list multiple times just because they technically fit into more than one subsection — we list them once under the section that's most relevant to their notability. So we would have to either follow Topher's option, or move Zamora from the existing section to the activists — but even though Zamora certainly was an HIV/AIDS educator and activist, to the general public he was far better known for being a person on a reality show than for his activism per se, so I don't see how "activists" could take precedence over "film and television" as the section he actually gets listed under.
Technically, I'd prefer to see this list be reformatted so that everybody in it is arranged as one alphabetical list, rather than 15 or 20 separate subsections for different occupations which sometimes lead us into pointless debates like this about which subsection a multisectional person like Zamora should be listed under, but that's a debate for another time. The point being that Wikipedia is not a reliable source? Nicmart (talk) 19:47, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
As an encyclopedia that anybody can edit, Wikipedia's reliability is entirely dependent on the quality of the sources we use. Yes, people can edit Wikipedia to make false or badly sourced claims — but we can only fix it if we catch it. Which is precisely why we require external sources to support our content, and cannot simply make circular citations to ourselves: because people can insert false information into Wikipedia, we depend on the sources to ensure that our information is accurate, and not simply on what another Wikipedia article claims.  Not done for now: There need to be independent secondary reliable sources discussing their AIDs status for us to include it, and they also have to be notable. The three links below are not reliable. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 14:38, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

Tony Fields, American dancer, actor, and choreographer, also died of HIV. 45.46.61.245 (talk) 01:38, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Please provide a source. It's not our job to find a source for you; if you want him to be listed here it's your job to provide the source which supports it. Bearcat (talk) 12:38, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Done I reused a source from the Tony Fields article which mentioned that he died from HIV-related complications.DirkJandeGeer щи 07:49, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Michael Shernoff

@XLR8TION: In 2021 do you recall of why you removed Michael Shernoff in this edit?

I was just browsing history and I thought this might be an error where you were intending to add when you meant to replace. Or is it something else? Thanks. Bluerasberry (talk) 19:10, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

I can't tell either. Looks like it could've been accidentally pasted over with Lou Sullivan. Since it was sourced, and Michael Shernoff's main article is also sourced, I've added him back in. Thank you. Geeky Randy (talk) 13:22, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

Under Acting (film and television) Please add Alan Palo (1962-1995) American actor who starred in Prehysteria! 2 and Tales from the Crypt. This link goes directly to his obituary in the Philadelphia Inquirer which confirms his status. https://inquirer.newsbank.com/doc/news/0EB32B7C93C9A7C4?search_terms=Alan%2BPalo&date_from=1995&date_to=1995&text=Alan%20Palo&pub%255B0%255D=PHIB&pdate=1995-01-03 LadyEvelynHyde (talk) 23:36, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Not done for now: Alan Palo, see WP:write the article first Cannolis (talk) 23:57, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
I'm sorry I'm confused. He does not have a page on Wikipedia. I was just wanting to add him to the list of HIV-Positive Actors as follows:
Alan Palo (1962-1995) American actor who starred in Prehysteria! 2 and Tales from the Crypt. https://inquirer.newsbank.com/doc/news/0EB32B7C93C9A7C4?search_terms=Alan%2BPalo&date_from=1995&date_to=1995&text=Alan%20Palo&pub%255B0%255D=PHIB&pdate=1995-01-03
Or, Are you wanting me to try to create a new page for him? LadyEvelynHyde (talk) 00:10, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
P.S. I just tried creating a page for him but they said there isn't enough significant coverage to create one. LadyEvelynHyde (talk) 02:23, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
As a dynamic list, one requirement for inclusion is that entries must satisfy the notability criteria for having their own article - if there isn't enough significant coverage for an article about the person, this requirement is not met and so they cannot be included in the list.
