Newark or New York[edit]

I changed Newark to New York since that is the city you want to travel to if you fly to that airport. I have been in inner city Newark, New Jersey, I can guarantee that it is not a tourist attraction. The fact that the Newark airport is located in another state is no reason to keep Newark. SAS homepage uses New York and furthermore Oslo airport is also not in Oslo state. /BIL 14:29, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I must agree with BIL. SAS says clearly that they service New York on their web pages. It should be noted that noone outside New Jersey who isn't interestet in or knowledgeable about aviation is aware of Newark or where it lays. The fact that there is a reference to Newark and not New York on this page can lead to falce information to people searching for information without extensive geographic knowledge (especially non-americans, who also use the English Wikipedia), and could lead people to beleave that SAS doesn't serve New York, something they most aboslutely do. If one is to use the same system as with New York with other airports on the list, should it not be changed to the following (for Norwegian Airports since this is the only places i have enough geographical knowledge to actually know where the places are)
Now think of the poor people desperatly looking for an airport near Oslo. As long as it is refered to as Jessheim (the town that Oslo Airport is located in) they havn't a clue where to go (thankfully the airport carries the Oslo name, and that is exaclty why). But Newark doesn't carry the New York name, ergo one gets quite a problem. Of course, anyone who lives in Eastern Norway, and probably most Norwegians, know where Jessheim is, and for them it isn't a problem. As wangi said on a different talk page, Wikipedia uses the official name of the airport. EWR is officially known as Newark Liberty International Airport, regardless of which city it serves. And as far as I know, OSL is NOT named Jessheim International Airport. We do not make things up here in Wikipedia. Elektrik Blue 82 12:19, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And JFK airport is officially called John F. Kennedy International Airport without New York in the name. This discussion is about what the destination city is, not the official name of the airport. It seems that a majority (at least according to a discussion in Talk:Newark Liberty International Airport) wants the destination to be called Newark not mentioning New York City, since the airport is in New Jersey, not New York (the state). In Europe low price airlines often serve remote airports like Oslo-Sandefjord Airport and Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, and they are written in Wikipedia as having Oslo and Frankfurt as destinations, even if they are located fairly far away from their destination cities. Newark airport seems to be an exception not mentioning the main destination city of its travellers. Airlines usually call the destination New York (for foreign airlines) and New York/Newark, NJ for airlines in the US.
