Physical releases[edit]

With apologies, this list is worthless to me with all of the shop shovelware in it. I came here expecting to see a list of Wii U physical retail games or at least a column to sort by. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.115.145.17 (talk) 16:32, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. List needs to be split between physical releases and digital only releases. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.12.125.219 (talk) 09:04, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. This list at the very least needs a column added to enable sorting between physical and digital only releases. Relevant regions also need to be merged into PAL per other lists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SeraphTC (talkcontribs) 14:18, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Since support for a separate physical release article hasn't been stated here in a little while, I'd like to bump with my own statement of support. It ought to be split up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.75.188.99 (talk) 04:49, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Won't happen. The project has a strong consensus that denoting physical releases violates WP:NOTCATALOG, and absolutely would not support a separate article to accomplish the same. -- ferret (talk) 12:14, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This has already been done for PlayStation 3 digital releases, though. There is an entirely separate article for download-only titles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.75.188.99 (talk) 20:12, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
PlayStation 3 is the only platform like that, and completely separate from this discussion, it happens to be in the process of being merged today. -- ferret (talk) 21:59, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for screwing up a list that was helpful to users Idontknowanythingok (talk) 22:56, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That argument makes no sense lol Idontknowanythingok (talk) 22:51, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

At the very least, rather than make a separate section of the list for digital only releases, is there a way to add extra columns with checkmarks and x's denoting whether games are released physically only, digitally only, or both? This would greatly help preservationists, historians, and collectors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.75.188.99 (talk) 20:10, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, the project has a clear consensus against this, as has already been stated. -- ferret (talk) 21:59, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ferret believes they are the consensus and ferret tells everyone what will not happen because ferret asserts that they are in control as a representative of a phantom consensus. [Ferret has also made management of the Switch game pages a headache.] This Wii U page clearly states it is a list of physical releases on optical disc. It is easy to research that there are only 169 physical Wii U games legally licensed for release in North America. This list has 790 games.
Ferret keeps referring to the Wikipedia page that lists what Wikipedia is not. The link does not state that making lists of physical copies of games released for a video game console violates any policy. Wikipedia does not belong to ferret. Ferret does not seem to care that so many people are complaining that this list does not make any sense for anyone trying to access encyclopedic information on the games released on the Wii U. It seems that ferret enjoys making miserable those people who actually use Wikipedia as an encyclopedia and not, as ferret does, as a digital forum that can be dominated by possessive bloggers who control the pages and prevent others from editing the inaccurate and confusing content on the pages. MCMichaelComstock (talk) 01:14, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MCMichaelComstock This is dangerously close to personal attacks and I recommend you stop. If you disagree with the consensus that multiple editors have informed you of, you are welcome to broach the topic at WT:VG, which you have also already been informed. -- ferret (talk) 03:11, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like ferret got a bit heated by another user calling out their malfeasance in trying to fix this list. Maybe they should be removed from moderating these things for a bit until they're able to think rationally. Idontknowanythingok (talk) 22:47, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is incorrect. Ferret is correct here, community consensus is against it. It's a long standing community consensus. Please consider focusing on getting caught up on the history here before worrying about labeling other editors. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 22:09, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is a ludicrous argument/accusation. There have been countless community discussions that have resulted in a consensus against documenting digital/physical releases. There's both policy problems, and the issue that you generally can't, in fact, find Wikipedia-approved reliable sourcing to comprehensively source the majority of the entries if the list. Don't shoot the messenger - there's much bigger issues here than ferret reminding people that we've already been through this before. Sergecross73 msg me 03:23, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting proposal[edit]

I propose that the list be split into a separate page called List of Wii U games (X-Y) (X and Y representing the reach of the new article). The content of the current page exceeds by 359% the article size limit established in WP:SPLIT. Although the limit applies less strongly to list articles, I think it exceeds it considerably enough to warrant a discussion. ~ Arkhandar (message me) 21:46, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak Support – Like I've stated above, although the article size limit applies less strongly to list articles, exceeding it by more than 3.5 times is enough for it to be split, especially considering that as is the list is hard to render and edit, as it slows down the browser, and sometimes fails when submitting edits. An alternative to the split would be to remove the developers column, as it might be out-of-scope or merge the Europe and Australasia column. ~ Arkhandar (message me) 21:51, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Several lists are getting split lately. The size of 300kb+ is not really the direct issue. The post-expand template limit is. This list sits at 1,718,146/2,097,152 bytes. When it is maxed, templates will stop being evaluated, causing citation templates to fail and for the Reflist itself (as one of the last templates on the page) to not display. Recommend a standard A-L, M-Z split. -- ferret (talk) 22:02, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • Oppose at this time. Unlike other lists that have been split as they grow, this list is essentially complete and will have no future growth beyond a possible handful of missing entry. -- ferret (talk) 12:13, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Ferret, what about the pageload length issue from an accessibility standpoint? (not watching, please {{ping}}) czar 18:42, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support May I make a suggestion that if we do decide to split the page in the foreseeable future, would we remove references from the titles that are linked? And also could we merge Europe and Australia/Australasia into PAL like other lists? Zacharyalejandro (talk) 23:31, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Support - No more games look like are going for the Wii U, even the one sole franchise has called curtains (Just Dance 2020 - No Wii U version) on the system. 75.111.23.74 (talk) 02:04, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Three way split would be best A-L, M-Z split and then give no-game applications its own lists. DoctorHver (talk) 05:06, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Same as what Ferret said. This article isn't going to grow and there's still lot of room to add if there's anything we've missed. Rukario-sama ^ㅈ^ -(...) 22:27, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Looking at this again, this page has far fewer games out of all the others, including other companies. So removing references and putting them its respective page if applicable, would take this article's size limit down a few numbers. Zacharyalejandro (talk) 21:44, 7 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've detagged this as there's clearly no consensus after more than a year. -- ferret (talk) 14:36, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Game not present in the list Buta Medal[edit]

There is at least one game not in the list: "buta medal" or Pig Medal ブタメダル [0005000010185000]. There are many references of it on the net, like this one on famitsu: https://www.famitsu.com/games/t/30968/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.34.82.98 (talk) 12:39, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Australian release eShop games[edit]

Word of warning to anybody that is going to edit this in the future.

DO NOT TOUCH THE AUSTRALIAN RELEASE DATES FOR ANY GAMES!!!!

They have been gone over with a fine tune comb to be as accurate as possible to make them match 100% what the Aus eShop listing release dates says with some exception being so far Deus Ex being released a day late digitally in Aus despite it's physical street date before the digital version.

So PLEASE!!!! DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING!!!
