Exclusion of "Untitled" games

Wanted to build consensus here before taking any big action. This article keeps on getting more and more "Untitled game from Company X" type entries. I think they should be removed.

  1. They clutter the list and they're not especially helpful if absolutely nothing is known but a company's name. (For example, companies like THQ support every main system, it's not exactly insightful to list that they have something they're working on.)
  2. Eventually, it's going to get confusing, as companies announce more games, as to what that initial "untitled game" was in reference to, whether or not to remove it, etc.

This stance does not included entries like "Untitled Tekken" or "Untitled Smash Brothers", where there is actual information as to what the game will be.

I would say that any game which has an article, or at least a good section of information in a main article should be allowed on the list. Blake (Talk·Edits) 04:33, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, that criteria would probably have about the same results as mine; it's not like "Untitled Ubisoft game" is going to have an article or section of information on it until it at least has a name or at least a "series" name attached to it, which at that point I'm fine with it being on the list. New Super Mario Bros. Mii

Should speculation be allowed just because it comes from a "reliable" source?

Several games were added to this list without confirmation. The only sources citing them were obviously just speculating, since there hasn't been an official announcement. As a result, I felt that the information was inaccurate and removed the games. However, they were put back there by someone (likely the person who added them in the first place). I took them off again, and he put them back again. So, we need to reach a consensus. Should games be added to this list just because a source assumes that the game might come to Wii U, even if there has been no indication at all from the developer, publisher, or Nintendo? Also, the only reason I hadn't helped was because I thought that source confirmed the Rainbow 6 Patriots game. But upon research, it's just highly speculated. So yeah, all three games in question should be removed. Sergecross73 msg me 22:55, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Medal of Honor Warfighter not confirmed for Wii U

I can find a few obscure sites, but no official sites. Also, large gaming sites such as IGN, Game Informer, GameSpot, etc. don't mention it. Personally, I'm 100% positive that it'll be announced for Wii U. As of yet, however, it hasn't. (Mace Attorney (talk) 02:32, 7 March 2012 (UTC))

As the above IP mentioned in edit summaries, the game still isn't 100% confirmed for Wii U. From what I gather, supposedly some German newspaper claims to have confirmation, but I have no idea if it's from a reliable source (I'm no German newspaper expert.), and EA still hasn't announced it themselves either. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online Cancelled/Unconfirmed?

Is the only reason this game's status changed due to not showing up at E3 yet? If that's the only reason, then it should stay as confirmed. A game not being at E3 doesn't mean it is cancelled. That sort of reasoning would consitute as original research or synthesis, which isn't acceptable. Or have I missed something? Has there been an official statement being made? Bioshock Infinite

BioShock Infinite. Is it really confirmed for sure? I don't see any mention of it on the game's official site. Most sources are tracing it back to the source this article currently uses, from "Clickonline.com", a website I'm not familiar with being reliable, and has not indicated what their source for knowing this is. DLC

An IP keeps on trying to add every piece of DLC of "Zen Pinball" to the list. I don't think DLC items belong on this article; if we start listing that for every game, this article is going to get far too massive, some games have like endless DLC. Shantae is confirmed by Wayforward

Awhile ago, Wayforward confirmed that they were working on a Shantae sequel for the Wii U. This game has not been added to the list currently. Another couple of titles recently confirmed are "Dusty Raging Fist" and "Cryamore". Lastly, the "Capcom Arcade Cabinet" and "Darkstalkers" were cancelled on the Wii U due to development starting before the eShop was complete.

Should we add in Off TV play and Pro Controller Support?

A few days ago, I added in two new columns to the List of Wii U games: Off TV Play and Pro Controller Support. I was hoping to create a definitive list of games that support it (as I can't seem to find one elsewhere) as well as a place to easily ascertain whether or not a game had these features. It was then removed later due to "lack of completeness" (mainly cause when I created it, I only had 10 games to test it on, therefore leaving a blank column for most of the page).

My question is whether you agree that this article would benefit from the extra two columns. Yes, it was a mess but I intended to do more research to add into the columns (as well as rely on a few other editors to add in). Perhaps if we could create a comprehensive list prior to posting it would help, but I wanted to bring the topic here before readding the columns. Thanks. Jns4eva (talk) 04:16, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

  • No Off TV Play Support - There's already a separate article that lists that at the Off TV Play article, and it's properly sourced for every entry. Too many columns clutter the list and make it difficult or overwhelming to read, and it's listed elsewhere, so it should definitely be removed here. Mario Kart 8 release dates

As an Australian, I am obviously going to be a little biased about this, but here goes. The release date for Mario Kart 8 is listed in this article as "Spring 2014" for Japan, Europe, North America, and Australia. "Spring" is technically a POV term for the northern hemisphere. See here, I guess? (English: "Out of season? That's a Northern Hemishphere POV!") The most reliable source for an Australian release date is NAL's website itself, which has it listed as Autumn 2014, as Autumn is of course the southern hemisphere equivalent of spring. So maybe the date for Australia should be listed as Autumn? But then it looks like there's a significant difference in release dates... On the game's dedicated article, it doesn't really matter because the overall date is just listed as spring and people from the south are usually used to converting seasons, but it's a bit more interesting here because of the region-specificness. Yeah, its a recurring problem since video game companies tend to announce vague time frames in "seasons" and yet that violates WP:SEASON. The best attempt people have used to solve this in the past is to mention it in quarters. (ie Spring 2014 in NA would be Q1/Q2 range.) Personally, I don't think its a great solution, it makes the timeframe wider, and is commonly switched back by IPs or other people not familiar with this wiki-guideline, because they just switch it back to what the sources say. But that's all it is. Its up to you. You'd be in the right to change it to this, but you'd probably need to be ready to enforce it, or it'll just be changed back... (Hopefully a better timeframe will be announced an it'll soon be a non-issue.) Sergecross73 msg me 12:33, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

I need help. I can't find any confirmation, or even mention, of this game's existence, so recently I have been reverting its addition to the list. However, my edit is then reverted back, and then I revert that edit, etc. a classic example of a revert war. Hey! It looks like I may have acted a little too boldly again, but since I don't usually see a lot of editors editing the article I thought nobody cared really. I guess I was wrong on that one (fortunately :D). As for why I moved the article, it just seemed like the right title to me. "Software" includes a lot of stuff that isn't here (and that doesn't belong here either), including the operating system's shenanigans, drivers, kernels, libraries and whatnot. I cribbed that from the top of Nintendo. I'm pretty sure "retail" covers anything that gets checked out with a payment method, whether in a physical store or on eShop, but correct me if I'm wrong. I would say that part of the reason why you thought nobody was around, is because you and a couple of other people do such an excellent job by yourself here. @Arkhandar: Basically when you said that "Software" includes a lot of stuff that doesn't belong here, that's exactly why there's a section on System software, with a {{main}}. So this truly is the list of all Wii U software, with a branch article into Wii U system software and so forth. So upon reviewing the article content as such, I'm now thinking that even my {{about}} suggestion was redundant as well. I think there truly was absolutely no problem whatsoever to begin with. @Arkhandar: The ultimate culprit here is probably Wikipedia's lack of table of contents, or any sort of normal interrelation and visual navigation between articles. I'm way beyond sick of having to read and comprehend and memorize inordinate volumes of text across overlapping topics, just to know what to put where. Proposed change: "QX 201X" to "201X QX"

The other day, I decided to be bold and changed all instances of "QX 201X" to "201X QX" so that, when the table is sorted by release date, it will list games coming Q4 2014 before those coming Q1 2015. In my edit summary, I invited anyone who knew which rules/policies/traditions (including those of WikiProject Video Games), if any, apply to revert the edit if it conflicted with them. I agree with Takinzinnia (talk • contribs), but Rukario-sama is making everything confusing and more time consuming for people who don't have time to update the page frequently. Please tell me we are NOT going back to 201X QX. If we are (I mean you guys, since you like to have control over these game pages), then after the July 21st Nintendo game updates to Wii U and 3DS, I'm going to have to leave for a long while, to make sure things don't change into ridiculous edits like this, and I really don't want to do that. The exclusivity definitions aren't being followed

The page says, "The column "Exclusive" indicates whether the Wii U is the only platform on which the game is available. This does not include handheld game consoles or mobile phones which generally run a completely different version of the game under the same name. A value of Console for exclusivity means that, while a title may be available as an arcade game or on a personal computer operating system such as Microsoft Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X, it is not natively available on any video game console other than the Wii U. A value of Nintendo for exclusivity means that the game is only available on Nintendo video game consoles." According to the very first definition, a game that's only on Wii U and 3DS should be a "Yes" exclusive for Wii U, but the page lists a few titles in that situation (Mighty Switch Force series, Sonic Lost World) as "Nintendo" exclusive. Anyway, what I'm getting at is this makes it difficult to make a game count with an accurate exclusivity breakdown. I'll correct them right now and then re-do my count. To be DMY, or not to be DMY (for release dates)

Usually, its based on either what region it applies to, or whatever region's style was used first, similar to WP:STOPCHANGINGIT. Since its a global one, the region part doesn't really apply. Technically, you should stick with the first one if you can't come to an agreement. If the only ones who are maintaining it prefer a different status though, I see no harm in it as long as its consistent. I personally don't care, just wanted to throw that out there. Meta-Scores

This is my first time editing the talk page so sorry if I am messing this up. Can we start to include the MetaScores as a column in lists of games? I think it would be helpful. Alex

The chart is already pretty cluttered and overwhelming. If anything I feel like we should be scaling it back some. These game lists have never had metascores on them, though I can't think of any policy that would disallow it... Sergecross73 msg me 20:13, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Would GameFAQs be considered as a place where release dates are accurate?

Exclusivity confusion...?

Hello. I have went to try and find some exclusivity of some games that have or are appearing on numerous platforms other than the Wii U, and I am very confused with what kind of exclusivity one specific game needs that are labeled with TBA or 2015 release. Updated game count.

A few months ago, someone came by with a program s/he created that counted up the games. Personally, I don't want to try counting all the games by hand since that would take too long and I'd probably make a mistake. Ping 1.5+ reference help

Regarding the name of the reference pointed to Ping 1.5+, the first name is only present, and not the last. So if the first name is only shown like for example: Shawn W. or just Shawn. Multiplatform or Timed for games that was previously "Console" exclusive?

It's pretty common sense to label the game as "Timed" when that game, which was previously exclusive to Wii U, is now available on the other platforms. This should also applies to those that happen to be "console" exclusives at later times. But what about those that labeled as "console" exclusive from the start? Should it still be labeled as "timed" or should it be labeled as "multiplatform" instead? On List of PlayStation 4 games and List of Xbox One games a title is marked as 'timed' up until the day of release on competing platform(s). At this point, the status is updated to multiplatform. It seems we have different definition of what "Timed" means in the exclusivity list. What you're saying is that the game that's exclusive to the platform will be "timed" when it was announced for other platforms but is not available for them just yet, right? In my definition, when it's announced and/or released for other platforms, it will be "timed" and it's permanent. It means that, it was exclusive to specific platform only for a limited time. Yes, we appear to have two different definitions. So on Xbox Rise of the Tomb Raider is listed as a timed exclusive until the day it releases on PS4, at which point the entry is updated from timed to multiplatform. I don't think the "Timed" exclusive should exist in the exclusive list if it's not for permanent. The exclusive game can be labelled straight to "multiplatform" just fine when it's announced/released for another platform. I'm struggling to understand your reasoning. It's well established that many titles have an exclusivity window: these are sometimes planned in advance and sometimes they are ad hoc, depending on how many resources a developer has available to them. You seem happy to update and amend the table when a developer has a change of plan after bringing a previous 'console' exclusive to additional platforms (e.g. ZombiU) yet, at the same time, you don't appear to recognise the value of denoting 'timed' exclusives (e.g. Rise of the Tomb Raider) unless the 'timed' exclusivity status remains permanent, long after its availability on other platforms. For me, the whole point of a table is to help inform the reader regarding a title's current status and release date. Thus, when a former exclusive title becomes available on other platforms, we should amend the table to reflect its current availability -- not merely to preserve for eternity some prior understanding that ceases to be relevant. Perhaps other editors may wish to comment but List of PlayStation 4 games, List of Xbox One games and List of video game exclusives (eighth generation) are all updated to reflect the present situation, not as things temporarily stood in the past. — TPX 16:06, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Remaining 2015 dates for all regions

Since 2015 is coming to a close sometime the following week after next week, I would think that if there's still a lot of remaining 2015 dates that haven't been released yet, they would possibly be moved to 2016 until an actual date is otherwise been established. Why remove this template?

I've tried to replace number of games with

Well as it was before that template was put in place, future games need to be counted when released, like so

As of yyyy-mm-dd, There have been 679 games on this list

Nobody willing to count the game from the list manually or through Notepad++ and/or will be out of sync over time without that template. As such example, you've always put a fixed value plus one. Japanese release dates.

Hello. I am wondering where some of the Japan release dates are for the games that are available for Europe and North America. Is a Japanese date coming soon? Or is it cancelled? If there are not any games released or have info on the Nintendo of Japan's website, I'd be willing to put them as unreleased. Also because there has not been any updates on the games that are available or upcoming in Japan, why keep them as TBA if they hadn't had a release date for a specific game when EU/NA's release has been announced days, weeks, or months prior than Japan's? List should be sortable by games on disk vs eshop

Australian release dates.

Some games include a release date for Australia. Super Mario Maker was released on September 12, 2015 in Australia. There are also others that are not available in Europe and instead Australia has the date. So could we add a section for Australia so that way we don't just cram AUS to the European spot. We really only have to label the Australian release dates in Europe column as AUS, or "AUS,EU" if their release dates are same. Release date without superscript means only for Europe. File size limit

Does this article exceed the file size limit? I am unable to edit the page. It sends my request to Wikipedia but times-out. I have tried several times now yet the result is the same. — TPX 13:27, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
