Merger Proposal[edit]

I propose that List of cities in Iran be merged into List of cities in Iran by province. There is no need to have a separate page for this, especially considering we already have a page for List of Iranian cities by population. The data in List of cities in Iran by province should cover everything that is already listed in List of cities in Iran.

I'm thinking a final product for this particular page might look something like List of cities in Canada or, if we don't have as much information as that page, at least like List of cities and towns in Poland. In order to do so, we need to define what a city means according to the official sources (provincial or federal government?) and list all populated centres that meet that definition accordingly. Preparing for merge; I note that List of cities in Iran has about 243 entries, while the List of cities in Iran by province has about 1253; sampling the former list, I've also been unable to find examples not included in the latter. From that, I conclude that List of cities in Iran by province is the more complete list and can't see that it benefits from additional cities on the other list, although there are some sections that should be merged. Maps[edit]

There are currently five national maps at the top of the page. And none further down. This leaves a lot of room next to the provincial tables. So I think it could be useful to place a local map in each section to show where these places are.

Primarily, I think these should be provincial maps showing the locations of the cities and towns. Alternatively, a provincial map of counties may work instead. I'm unsure whether locator maps showing the provinces' placements within Iran will clutter the article or not.

As for the current (national) maps, I don't have a problem with any of them. But I'd like to suggest moving three or four of them into a map gallery at the top of the page, rather than the bottom, as they are quite relevant. BucketOfSquirrels (talk) 22:50, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
