Untitled[edit]

This article has a lot of incorrect information. While the listing includes know LCD manufacturers, the list also includes several manufacturers that do not produce LCDs (Toshiba for example). It also list "Brands" that are not actual manufacturers. (RCA, Proscan for example)

Listed companies or brands listed below are definitely NOT LCD panel manufacturers: 


   * AOC
   * Bang & Olufsen
   * Barco
   * JVC
   * Lenovo
   * Medion
   * Polaroid Corporation
   * ProScan
   * RCA
   * Soyo - (Bankrupt)
   * Toshiba
   * Viewsonic
   * Vizio

The above list is not all inclusive. Hopefully someone will research and clean up this list.

I must agree that this page is very misleading. It is incorrect so much that pro publico bono I decided to remove its content (I am not sure if I am the best person to do this but the article is simply misleading)

In my opinion there are different sort of manufacturers. There must be distinction between i.e. Sharp, Hitachi (both make Eizo displays) LG Displays, S-LCD (have substantial portion of the market) and some other manufacturers making i.e. LCD for calculators or watches. The aim of Wiki is to give information to the readers. Making one long list does not do it at all.

Btw. I am not sure if Toshiba doesn't make displays. Links which I cited say that their laptops use LCDs labelled Toshiba, however they have the naming convention very similar to Samsung's displays (now S-LCD - Samsung-Sony 50/50 cooperation) 83.10.234.115 (talk) 12:43, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here is information I am certain of:

  • Sony broke their contract with Samsung in 2009 and now buy LCD panels from Sharp.
  • Philips parted with LG in 2008 and now buy panels from Sharp. [1]
  • In 2005, Sharp purchased Fujitsu Displays. [2]
  • In the end of 2009, Toshiba and Sharp made a contract where Sharp supplies the LCDs, and Toshiba supply processors. [3]
  • Panasonic, being the fourth largest producer of LCD, acquired 50.2% of Sanyo, making it a subsidiary, on December 21, 2009.
  • Sharp own a 29% stake in German TV manufacturer Loewe and supply LCD panels etc.

How about dividing the page into several sections?[edit]

May I suggest that we divide the page into several sections for different kinds of manufacturers?

1. Brands which market LCD products

2. Manufacturers which make large LCD displays (that is, LCD panels which replace CRTs).

3. Manufacturers whic make small LCD displays (like those which go into calculators and similar instruments.

Misleading page[edit]

It makes sense to have a list of the component (LCD Panel) manufacturers as well as the major display manufacturers, those that purchase the component panels and design/manufacturer their own displays. Both are listed together right now. They should be perhaps in two separate lists. There is a difference between LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) manufacturers and LCD Display (displays made with LCD technology) Manufacturers. Rjheise (talk) 16:32, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is also not always immediately apparent if a company is actually a manufacturer of LCDs and/or displays, or if it's just a distributor and supplier. I'm not sure if the latter deserves a Wikipedia list. Friedr (talk) 17:12, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Emerging displays producers is difficult to maintain![edit]

The list of OLED and MicroLED makers is not complete, and not correct...

For example, in OLEDs: CPT is no longer in business, and never really made OLEDs. LXD is not an OLED maker, nor is planar systems. Just some examples. In OLED lighting, many companies mentioned are not producing OLED lighting anymore - Philips, osraem, panasonic, Pioneer... For MicroLED, the list is even more incomplete.

Tracking emerging displays production is difficult, and some sites do it already, maybe it is not a good idea to have these lists at all, if we cannot update them? OLED panel manufacturers not up to date[edit]

Osram is no longer active - in 2007 Display division was shut - in 2018 also lighting (automotive) was closed as well i dont change wiki content i'm involved so only the info on the discussion 212.204.94.37 (talk) 17:20, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
