Big list of hoshuko and nihonjin gakko[edit]

This page from the Japanese school of Qatar (Archive) lists URLs of various Japanese schools around the world. They come in handy WhisperToMe (talk) 00:31, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Another one here (Archive) even links to stories about Japanese schools from papers such as the Nikkey Shimbun. WhisperToMe (talk) 04:51, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Found additional lists at http://web.archive.org/web/19961221110856/http://www.serve.com:80/Ringonet/schools.html and http://web.archive.org/web/20010606013334/http://www.serve.com:80/Ringonet/schools.html WhisperToMe (talk) 18:04, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Additional California schools?[edit]

I don't think MEXT recognizes their Saturday schools but I'm not sure if they should be listed WhisperToMe (talk) 20:53, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Additional New Jersey schools?[edit]

I'll have to see if the Japanese Children's Society of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey has any Hoshuko. Obviously it would be unrecognized by MEXT. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:52, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New York and Chicago Consulate lists[edit]

The New York consulate has a list: http://www.ny.us.emb-japan.go.jp/jp/f/02.html - http://www.webcitation.org/6XRv9eabs WhisperToMe (talk) 22:11, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago has a list too: http://www.chicago.us.emb-japan.go.jp/con_schools.htm WhisperToMe (talk) 05:11, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Other closed schools?[edit]

The Japanese Wikipedia at ja:補習授業校 says that the following Japanese weekend schools closed (in addition to Albuquerque, Boca Raton, and Puerto Rico):

In Asia:

In Brazil:

Europe:

  • フランス・アルモール補習授業校???
  • Padua, Veneto came with a website so I'll use that :)

Africa and Mid-East:

  • Lusaka, Zambia Done
  • Tripoli, Libya Done (see note)
  • Sanaa, Yemen Done
  • Khartoum, Sudan Done

Oceania:

  • South Queensland Academy (サウスクィーンズランドアカデミー) -- Port Moresby is already listed

Obviously sources are needed for these. WhisperToMe (talk) 06:04, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

http://web.archive.org/web/20020610072452/http://www.j-school.net/sbn/ seems to be an old website of the South Bend Hoshuko but I'd like to find a working page with a street address. WhisperToMe (talk) 06:30, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Old school list[edit]

2003 Old lists of schools:

WhisperToMe (talk) 08:35, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Roanoke isn't mentioned in the 2003 list, but I do see it in the 2005 list (Archive). I wonder what the story behind it was, and if a short-lived, failed business operation had resulted in its quick start and death WhisperToMe (talk) 08:59, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It also seems like Tripoli, Libya's Japanese school had closed, but later re-opened. Compare the 2002 list to the 2014 list (Archive). WhisperToMe (talk) 01:02, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2000 lists (seems to be the oldest I can find):

WhisperToMe (talk) 06:43, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The oldest oldest for North America seems to be from 1996, but it only lists the bigger ones which get teachers from Japan: http://web.archive.org/web/19970105084246/http://jsd.org/schools.html - http://www.webcitation.org/6Xpcrnu2x - Strangely it also lists websites of the Japanese schools of Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur WhisperToMe (talk) 12:12, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cairns hoshuko[edit]

https://sites.google.com/site/cairnsjltc/ is the Cairns hoshuko website http://jscns.org.au/ is the Japanese society's website WhisperToMe (talk) 02:52, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Old websites of hoshuko[edit]

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.j-school.net/ seems to have a collection of many old hoshuko websites. They may be very useful for getting information on closed hoshuko. WhisperToMe (talk) 06:31, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Did Morwell, Australia have a hoshuko?[edit]

  • Komori, Takeshi (小森 武志; モーエル補習授業校 of Morwell, Australia). "A school within a school" (現地校の中にある日本人学校 (<特集>国際化の中での子供の教育と言語問題). The Journal of the Acoustical Society of Japan (日本音響学会誌) 45(3), 239-240, 1989-03-01. The Acoustical Society of Japan (ASJ; 一般社団法人日本音響学会). See profile at CiNii.

That makes me think they did... WhisperToMe (talk) 12:53, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
