Fair use rationale for Image:JHLooseEnds.jpg[edit]

Image:JHLooseEnds.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Release date[edit]

BlueCheerfan: In their Hendrix discography, biographers Harry Shapiro and Cesar Glebbeek list the release date as "02/74"; later Hendrix producer John McDermott and long-time Hendrix engineer Eddie Kramer give "February 1974" (see my 17 March edit for source details). They have written several books on Hendrix since their first ones in 1990 and 1992 and should be considered Hendrix experts. Discogs.com is a user-generated website with no or little apparent oversight and therefore is listed at WP:ALBUMAVOID as unreliable for WP purposes. Although Discogs lists "1973" for several releases in other countries, it shows "1974"[1] and "Feb 1974"[2] for the original UK LP. Could this be the reason that you did not add a citation with a Discogs.com link in your edits?

Part of the confusion may be that the album was released in February 1974 and carries a "1973" copyright. This is not unusual – albums can take months to prepare. The copyright process sometimes starts at the end of the prior calendar year for an early release the following year. Therefore, an album may have an earlier copyright year than the release year, although it only differs by a month or two.

Unless suitable reliable sources are provided that show otherwise, the release date should remain February 1974 as it has since it was added to the WP article in July 2008.

I put down this Discogs link when I was reverted it back to my way. https://www.discogs.com/master/82782-Jimi-Hendrix-Loose-Ends- You can find that I put it down on this link. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Loose_Ends_(Jimi_Hendrix_album)&action=history BlueCheerfan (talk) 16:01, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BlueCheerfan: The Discogs link you provided shows the year as "1974", which was never added to the article as a source and only mentioned in your edit summary. This is the same year as shown in the two Discogs links I added above. Anyway, as I explained, Discogs is not a reliable source, so it can't be used in WP articles. I have provided two reliable sources that identify the date as February 1974. Unless you can provide better reliable sources, there is nothing to change. —Ojorojo (talk) 20:12, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Even though you can’t use Discogs on Wikipedia, I just want to say this. If you scroll down on the link to the versions of the album, it starts showing ones that have the year 1973 and if you click on them, it would have the year 1973 under released. On this Discogs link when you scroll down to the name of the album, on the left side you would see the year 1973. https://www.discogs.com/artist/110593-Jimi-Hendrix?page=2 BlueCheerfan (talk) 02:06, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BlueCheerfan: The dates that Discogs show are not reliable and, as you correctly state, cannot be used on WP. The two reliable sources that you removed list the release date as February 1974. Since a suitable reliable source that clearly shows a release date of 1973 has still not been provided, the earlier version with the properly sourced released date is being restored. However, a footnote has been added that explains that the copyright year is shown as 1973. If you wish to pursue this further, there are options available, such as a request for comment. —Ojorojo (talk) 14:40, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
